Need to lay some pipe
Haha, I thought that would get your attention.
I'm in search of a plumbing shop that sells piping. I'm looking for a steel or galvanized pipe that's roughly 3-1/2" to 4" inside diameter that's about 48" long.
Here's why I want it. I want to get this grinder stand from Harbor Freight, this one:

Problem is, the pipe that makes up the column is only 29-1/2" high. The damn thing is made for a midget. I'd have to bend way the hell down just to use the thing. This stand would be perfect if it were taller. So, if I can find a steel pipe (PVC won't work) in the dimensions I described above, I'd be set.
The issue is cost. The HF stand is already $50 and when I checked at Home Depot & Lowes, neither one carry pipe that big around. So I called Shcumacher & Siler (plumbing supply) and I almost fainted. I can only order it 21 freakin' feet long and it would cost $480!!
Does anyone know of a place in the Baltimore Metro area where I can get a pipe this size without it costing an arm and a leg?

I would think that it would be cheaper if you just build a platform out of wood to set the stand on... it's not the prettiest thing in the world, but it would get the job done, and cost a lot less than $480 worth of pipe

So I solved my problem. I was able to find a pipe that's 3-1/2" outside diameter and 40" long at the American Automatic Sprinker Co in Owings Mills (they also have other offices around the Balt/DC area). Cost me $50 but it's now the right height.
I don't know why it is, but I always seem to have to either buy something and modify it to the way it should be or build it myself
