I do not see where that receiver decodes the lossless codecs. It allows for them to be played "as is" from the player as is the case for my Denon(I misspoke earlier).
It decodes both DTS-HD MA and Dolby TrueHD over HDMI. Here's a link to Onkyo's page with more detailed specs: http://www.onkyousa.com/model.cfm?m=TX-SR7...ss=Receiver&p=f

Also, to clarify a previous concern posted about Faroudja DCDi upscaling, there are two different DCDi chips that are common in the market - DCDi Edge versus DCDi Cinema. One is a budget deinterlacer (Edge) and the other is a higher-end video processor (Cinema). The Faroudja DCDi Cinema

So a $400 receiver can decode/process hd audio? Wow. That's pretty damn good. I opted to allow my PS3 and HD-DVD players do the processing. My receiver is capable of playing the hd formats, but cannot process them.

Edit is in bold

Yep. Believe it or not, the TX-SR606 (the model below the one I got) can also decode the formats. It, however, doesn't have the THX certification, the good DCDi chip, as many HDMI inputs, or as powerful an amplifier. Still, for about $350, it's a pretty darned good deal too.

Decoding isn't the same as processing though. Decoding just means it recognizes it and can play it as is. The ability to process it means you can alter it. I'm not sure those can actually do the latter.

looking through the reviews of the LN52A650 I saw that someone recommended the LN52A630. The only differences are a matte screen vs the shinier one on the 650 (which some find unappealing but it lowers the contrast ratio to 40,000:1), 1 less HDMI port, and no rss/network connection... Amazon has it for 1800, ~$90 less than the 650...

hmm, I had someone setup my 988p for me. I almost wish I didn't at this point, I'm kinda lost with it.
