Are you seriously that wound up about badges that you're going to use terms like 'cool' people to justify your position?

Place whatever value you want on the badge, but don't shoot the messengers in the process. The CO's are mid-a members like yourselves. They volunteer their time to help maintain the board and plan things for the community. In my experience, the CO's make more of an effort to come out to events.. It's rather hard NOT to meet them sometimes

The rules are the rules. If you have an issue with it - why not take it up with management?

Rules:

1. Be a member - don't pay for a membership - no badge. Simple as that. You also can't sell anything. You can however post away about how much you hate the system. Continue.

2. Attend Meets - this is so the CO's can see you. On more than one occasion, a former Co has vouched for someone at a meet and that person is badged.

I don't think anyone was stripped of a badge because they hadn't attended a meet in a long time - they were just no longer paying members.

No. I could actually care less.

I understand that but they also have some input with management. I'm surprised they just went along with it.

No thanks, I'm in management and I see where they are coming from. But at the same time management lets others voice their opinions and do what they can to compromise on issues. Not attack them when they voice concerns.

Rules:

1. Be a member - don't pay for a membership - no badge. Simple as that. You also can't sell anything. You can however post away about how much you hate the system. Continue.
I'd rather not pay for now, thanks. I don't see a benefit. If I saw more then i'd reconsider.

2. Attend Meets - this is so the CO's can see you. On more than one occasion, a former Co has vouched for someone at a meet and that person is badged.
I have, thanks.

I can think of one or two. When you've been around a bit you'll notice. With a s2ki age of less than a year I don't expect you to. Don't worry, I don't blame you for it.

This is not at all a fight or a rant. just my $.02. if you take offense do it i offer my advanced apologies. With this being the internet and a community and all I though we were all allowed to voice our opinions. Unless of course my opinion doesn't count because I don't have a badge?

You never know, some people might take offense to it. I understand Dan's (MacGyver) position. He has been a longstanding member of s2ki, the mid-a and puts in a lot when it comes to knowledge and time. I also have met him myself and know he has a family which he devotes a lot of time to. So i understand that it might not be possible for him to attend meets. If he decides not to pay to be a member then that's fine. But I understand his position. I only wish others do to.

For the record. I was a paying member myself for a number of years. I just didn't see any benefit out of forking out $20. I didn't see why I should.

Get off your high horses people!

Unless you are trying to sell something do you really care about the badge? Even then you have to be a paying member in order to sell and if you had a badge and were a paying member you did not lose the badge.

much ado about nothing

One of the benefits is a mid-A badge. So you can be in the "cool" group.

And you have to understand that not paying means no badge and that only means you cannot sell stuff on the MidA section of the forums. You can't sell anywhere on the forums without paying the fee.

Hardly worth $20 IMHO.

I'm not arguing about the cost. I stated that earlier.

My issue was the attending meets portion. Or I guess you didn't catch that.

I get your point.. and I sympathize. I think the CO's have even voiced their personal opinions that it's a broken system.. but it is the system at hand.

Whether i'm here 1 year or more wont change my perspective that you're taking out your frustrations at the wrong people. Sometimes being part of a community is more than just showing up. A lot of people go above and beyond to plan and organize fun things for people.. and there are just unhappy and unappreciative people everywhere.

I was simply refuting your points that:
1. badges are for the 'cool' people
2. CO's are removing badges from paid members who have not attended a meet recently.

The majority of your rant was based on a false premise, so I was simply pointing out that it was wrong.
