Gents, this thread has run its course.

If you want a badge in the mid-A, for whatever value you place on it, you have to be a member of s2ki. Periodically, we have to clean our roster and if you do not meet that criteria, you may lose your badge.

We have let this thread go far enough, people have had their points heard, and we are going around in circles now. Right now, the membership requirement for a mid-A badge stands.

This thread will be closed at midnight tonight to allow everyone to digest this.

Thanks, TC, for leaving it open this long. I'm under no illusion that everyone (anyone?) will agree with me, and I'm okay with that, as long as my voice is heard along with everyone else's. If a decision is changed because of something I've said, go me... if not, I tried.

To those who reply with what can be boiled down to "Don't be a cheap-ass", I believe you fail to see the deeper issue(s). It's so easy to dismiss someone's dissenting opinion with "You can afford an expensive car, why cheap out now?", but remember that dismissal when it's your opinion in question sometime down the road.

Yes, I can afford the $20 without blinking, but in doing so I would be blindly accepting what I disagree with, advocating (bullying?) others to do the same, and not bring attention to what I feel is continuing (and growing) issue with this board. I thought one of the great things this board was supposed to be about was community interaction. Should that community silently accept everything that's forced upon them, or should they try to sway those decisions to what they feel are best for them, not what one or two individuals decide behind closed doors?

I try to keep my comments coherent and restrain myself from getting too personal when the attacks start (though I don't always succeed), but some seem to relish in the holier than thou attitudes that if you can't agree with them, shut up and go home (this is more relevant to threads other than this one, but the point remains). Unfortunately, because they're the ones screaming louder than most, they're the ones who are heard more often, leading some to believe if you're not in with "the group" (however the person currently being oppressed wishes to define that group), you're irrelevant. Kind of takes the fun out of the whole "group" thing, leading to less of a community mentality and more of a mob mentality. Consider that next time your post can be boiled down to "Agree or go away".

btw my two cents:

from what i've seen in my short time here, some people think a badge is not a big deal any more. but yet those same people are MAKING a big deal about it.

i'm not pointing fingers at specific people, because i couldn't care less really who is saying what, i left high school 5 years ago, i left a bull shit drama queen fraternity (i often called it a sorority with how much drama there was) a little less than a year ago (altho i wasn't active in it for about 2 years) and i really don't want to get too involved in it here.

That brings me to another point. i paid 400 dollars a semester (800 a year) to stay in a fraternity that i had a few good friends in... and that was MANDATORY. why not fork out 20 bucks (less than 2 dollars a month... really?!?!) to be part of a sight that has most likely given you a GREAT deal of knowledge about the car (expensive btw) you chose to own. even if you find one good deal about some oil at some store, BOOM DER YA GO, 20 dollars is made up for.

sorry. i know i'm new to the sight and may not know the whole "back ground" of the badge, but hell, i was at Hopkins and made it out to two meets, paid 20 bucks (even tho i was paying 50 grand a year to attend hopkins....) and had a bullish job that i only made 10 dollars an hour at 10 hours a week.

I under stand prioritizing when money is tight, especially in this economy. But as a CO said, it was only people who were guest status for over a year. if you can't find twenty dollars a YEAR to pay to this sight then don't complain about it.

once again:

i'm off to work at my part time job where i make minimum wadge so i can hide a twenty dollar bill in my room to pay for my membership next year.
You are a college graduate? You are never getting into grad school.

If you hold the shift key while pressing the i key it turns into I
It's site not sight

Dan has probably given more knowledge than he has received on S2ki

I do not believe you had to be in guest status for a year either just currently in that status.

MacGyver I was not pointing any fingers at anyone in particular my post was a general statement... I'm saying that I don't know what the big deal is... membership has it's privileges and the badge just happens to be one, along with endless knowlege, some great people, sponsor deals, plenty of fun times and posts... I'm not trying to FORCE you or anyone else to spend $20 for a membership I'm just saying why not financially support a site that has given you so much?

Let me see if I understand you, Dan.

You want to keep your badge and the (for want of a better term) seal of approval despite the fact that you have a problem with the community that keeps you from wanting to purchase a membership to support it and are too busy to participate it in anyway?

Seriously?

Come on, man... Give me a break.

I know you have given a lot to this community and S2ki.com; both in Florida and in the Mid-A. The gadgets and advice you have provided us with are priceless and I really do respect that. But that was then, this is now.

Participation implies a continuing commitment. You, for what may very well be very good reasons, have chosen to not continue that commitment. That is all well in good but, in doing so, you have given up your right to complain when those that have not given up their commitment enforce their rules as they see fit.

they could make it like a lot of unions do and grandfather those who had it previously and then from here on out you must pay. but i think this might have already been brought up.
