i took a friend on a glorious drive yesterday through northwest albemarle county. after i dropped her off back in charlottesville, i drove around the university and met a c'ville city cop in a van on 14th street. as soon as he went by, i saw his brake lights and he started to turn around. i knew i wasn't speeding, so i knew it had to be because of not having a front plate. turns out i was right....but i played it off well and he didn't ticket me after he checked out my license and all that jazz he said some rather nice things about my car..then said he wished he could be out joyriding instead of driving thru town in a van
so, after detailing my car this morning, i caved and put the front plate on. the front plate requirement is such but after one warning, i am scared to chance it and get a ticket.
on another note, while i was out driving i saw silverstone S2000 with its top up!!! i was like
Remember...there's always another option if you *do* feel the need to keep the cops off your neck.
You still coming out next Saturday to our meet? If so, be sure to check out the way my license plate (cut/sized down ) is mounted to my Coastal Metals grill insert.
I am going to court on Wednesday for two tickets, one is a no front plate ticket. That one is $25, but I would pay that once per month to keep that ugly thing off the front of my car.
yeah - i actually want to check out installing the plate in the grill area. my only worry is the airflow restriction....but i suppose i could just remove the hood to make up for it i feel the same way as you do dan, but unfortunately my wallet does not. i heard some tickets for that are $50! i also didn't know it was reason enough to pull someone over...i thought they would just make it a secondary violation if they caught you for speeding or running a redlight. my roommate has no front plate on his '89 grand am...and hasn't been bothered because of it. in fact, he got a speeding ticket and the cop didn't even notice the plate wasn't there. we are such targets in our beautiful cars, its unfair but makes up for it
yeah - still set to be there on saturday. i might have to duck out of the drive early though.
