I walked out of my workplace last night to see three cop cars surrounding something in the parking lot. I work at one of the federal agencies where the security force is dressed in black uniforms and often armed with MP-5 Sub-machineguns. They are very professional folks, but definitely have the tendency to appear menacing. As I walked closer I realized that what they had surrounded was my S 2000. My heart sank. Last year someone hit it in the parking lot to the tune of $1400 and a destroyed left front fender. It must have happened again!

As I got within transmitter range I unlocked the trunk and called out, "is anything wrong?"

The three security folks all smiled. "We're just checking out your awesome car. I think we need one too." It turned out that two of them were married to each other and considering whether an S 2000 was in their future.

They proceeded to ask about the StonGuard and Rick's badges and my wheels. They noticed the Coastal Metals grill and side ventilation, and when I popped the hood they spotted the Evolution decal I have displayed inside and correctly identified Jeff's location in Chantilly. I've seen S 2000 owners who knew less about the mods that are available for our baby--they even spotted the Rick's full-height wind deflector.

We talked cars for a few more minutes. Good folks, and we found out we were all united by being car freaks and S 2000 fans.

Having friends that are machine-gun-totin'-car-freaks has got to be one of the better things in life!

 

This is why I sent out that thread about "still getting compliments about our S" awhile back. It's sweet when someone totally unexpected gives you a compliment about your/our S.

Congrats, now you have a friend/fan in the right place. And, maybe they'll keep an eye on your car so no further damages occur in the future.
