^^ That thread was worth the read, lol. Pete stirring it up driving around babies in S2000s.

Funny how that guy automatically assumed you looked at him like you were better than him. I know I probably give off that look to every idiot that revs on me at a stoplight (which actually hasn't happened once since I've been boosted surprisingly), not because I think my car is God's gift to the automotive world, but because street racing is incredibly stupid and anyone revving on me in traffic deserves that look.

Seriously considering doing whatever it takes to get my car back in this status. Even if it means selling the HT

Below is my favorite setup I've had between both s2ks and the one I miss the most.

Steve, that's one good looking ride right there. Were those the Genesis CEs? Makes me appreciate Silverstone even more. I have had a vision for what I wanted this car to be since I got back in to the S2K, and I'm 90% there. If only I could find a good set of Mercury Silver CEs... I just can't bring myself to buy them brand new from a vendor quite yet. I need the CEs, a different suspension, and possibly a rear spoiler delete and I'll have all that I want out of this car.

I still miss my old BB setup from time to time though:

They were in fact CE28 genesis. In my absolute favorite spec too. 17x9 +40 all around. That was just a super simple clean setup.

I actually had in my possession a set of 17x9 +40 Mercury Silver CE28s not long after I got the Berlina s2k but I ultimately decided at the time I wanted a HT more so I sold them. I'm still bummed I let them go. I'm slowly coming to the realization that I probably won't end up tracking this s2k outside of lots of autocross. Between the time/cost of doing so and the risk involved I'm not sure it's worth it. I can make the perfect street car that looks good and can still hang in autocross so I'm leaning more towards doing that.

There are lots of days I miss the ease of top down driving. Much like how I'm always buying and selling parts I kind of feel like the HT is just another phase. Now I can say I've been there and done that. My only concern is due to the rarity of finding a good OEM top and the cost of them if I let it go I might never have a chance to get another. I guess one major perk of Berlina is the car and top are black even with a soft top so it looks less like a convertible than any other color.

The toughest part would actually be finding a perfect condition complete soft top assembly. I sold mine to Jeebs right after I got the HT.

My other thought was just try to trade it for another color s2k. Maybe another Silverstone, GPW, or Laguna. Last time I mentioned trading I really wanted to be able to hold onto the HT but now I don't care so much about that so as long as someone was putting down the right amount of cash on top I'd be up for it.

I think we all have that idea that we might actually track our cars from time to time, but it really isn't practical for most of us at all. I gave up on that theory. It's too far away, too time consuming, and too expensive for me and my desires right now. I want a decently fast street machine that looks good. That's what I'm building. You should definitely go back to your "roots" and get the perfect offset CEs, put the car on a good stance, and maybe boost it for the added power.

I disagree about selling the HT though. I think the HT makes the car. Personally, I never wanted a convertible... I just wanted the S2000. If they'd made this car in a coupe, I would have bought the coupe. It really is the best of both worlds, and you'll regret selling it I think. Get yourself a stand, and take the HT off for awhile.

As for selling the car? I wouldn't do it. Black is beautiful... it's just a pain to keep clean. Since it isn't your DD though, that is less problematic.

I was always in the camp of I wanted an s2000 because it was an s2000. It never had anything to do with being a convertible. If it was a coupe I would have picked that too but it's not. That being said after having the convertible I found I enjoyed it quite a lot more than I thought I would.

I personally like the profile and shape of the soft top a lot more than the HT. It has much more of the Mugen HT shape. I think the Mugen HT is a better looking top but I dislike the fact that it isn't metal and doesn't have a glass window and that's what puts the OEM on top for me.

I won't do it either unless I can get the kind of cash on top that I'm asking. If someone wants to make the swap with me they will definitely be paying for it.

It all ultimately comes down to money like most things in life and I just don't have enough of it to do all the things I want. I'd rather build the car I want now instead of working towards something I might not ever be able to get to.
