Speeding Ticket (Updated)
SlimJim, this wedding wasn't by chance on Friday was it?
In MD, or Balt. Co. at least, it all depends on the judge. I've seen some who have given a PBJ (Probation Before Judgement) to people who went 30-40 miles over the limit and I've seen judges show no mercy to someone who has never had a ticket in their life and was only goign 10 over.
It really depends on who the judge is and what kind of mood they're in.
Maybe 4theheckofit can impart some of his knowledge on the subject.

I promise you a MD ticket carries over to a VA license.
Been there... done that.

But how many points would you receive? In MD, the points would be 2 for 10 to 29mph over the limit, 5 points for 30+ over. How many points would that be in VA?

When I went to court in Rockville for a speeding ticket I was one of the last cases to go and had to listen to all the other tickets. Many people got off with a PBJ if they had no other "problems" within the last 5 years. The judge would ask them about their previous 5 year history. I got a PBJ with mine but it was my first offense and only 10 mph over. However, a friend of mine go caught with a 25+mph over in a school zone (52 in a 25) and she brought a lawyer and got off with no points and a 150 dollar fine plus lawyer fees, that was in NC though. I would really consider taking a lawyer, but it also really depends on the judge and if the cop shows up. But definately take it to court.

You receive whatever the offense warrants in VA. If you are found to be 15 over in MD, then whatever the the pts are for 15 over in VA apply.
I got a ticket in South Carolina that wouldn't have carried any points there, but VA applied it to my license as if it were a 6 point reckless driving ticket. - Jeremy (jnn4v)

As Dan said above, for some reason our ticket in VA never showed up on my MD record. I guess it's up to the state to care about tickets in other states.
