Oil pump failure is not that uncommon and it is NOT something that can be predicted. You'll have a nice new motor now that should serve you quite well for at least another 100k or more. We've had to replace engines in the past due to failed oil pumps, but I reallllllllly hope I don't have to face that with my S. Best wishes to you, SJ.

Status Corner!!

Oh, and by the way, when the oil pump fails, irreversible engine damage can occur within only seconds. Even if you shut off the car almost immediately, the engine generally will have damage, ie, there is nothing you could have done to have changed what happened.

Yes I know there was nothing I could have done...it happened within seconds

I felt sorry for the people behind me except for when the one guy wouldn't let me coast over lol Then I was kinda happy I sprayed him w/ oil, coolant and metal pieces...

New pics since head was taken off

Oooooooh Ahhhhhhh

Supposedly the head is usable just needs to be redone. Doesn't seem that there's any body damage to it...

At the risk of making a bad situation seem trivial, I want to compliment you. It takes some talent to add air vents on both sides of the block. Not your fault, but surely catastrophic.

Good luck with the new motor. A guy here in Ohio has been running a 2001 ECU on his 2004 for over year without trouble. That includes some track time.
