I don't think you can use an AP1 ECU on an AP2, the fuel mapping, ignition timing and such will be off won't it?

Good luck.

And Warren, there are more than a couple of AP1's like what J's is going to be. FWIW, Inline stated that they require new oil pumps be installed with their new motors to rule out possible oil contamination and the resulting damage.

Holy hell! All that damage from an oil pump.
No oil pump, no lubrication. Metal hitting metal makes for locked motors. I'm glad your new motor's on its way, SJ. I'm surprised you're staying with the original ECU though. Will the original ECU have to be changed over somehow?

Nope, and can't be. They're not flashable like the '06's. J just needs to keep her foot out of it a wee-bit... 8500 rpm.

Yes, but what caused the oil pump to fail? That's what I want to know. Was it high mileage (though 100k on a Honda engine isn't high mileage), high revving, a design flaw in the pump, something else?

Anyone else know about oil pump failures on an S?

yup, you can. I think actually Steve (tenblade) did it. You just need to cut a new key.

No, Steve used the '02+ AP1 ecu on his '01 S2000. Defender(Eliot) has an AP1 ECU, AP2 motor, and AP2 tranny with 4.77 gears.

I wasn't low on oil for sure... Probably just went bad. Funny enough it was the first time I used synthetic too...

I will be getting alot of new parts that come with the new engine lucky me...From what I've heard you just hook it up and there's nothing else to do with the ECU. I was told power cute out around 8300k anyway .. so no need to worry about a higher redline. I've done my research and talked to alot of people with experience and I trust them.

We will see how it goes.
