In VA courts don't determine points, the DMV does after a conviction is reflected on their records. With a good lawyer anything is possible. I had a buddy of mine who got a 110 in a 55 ticked knocked down to failure to obey highway sign, but that was about $2000+ in attorney fees. Good luck to ya!

best of luck with it. I went lawyer free with mine and got away. But I think the judge that day was drunk or hi. He was letting DUIs that were doing 90 on shore drive go. Maybe you will be lucky

Guy I know just had lawyer reduce his 87 in a 65 (reckless in VA anything over 80) to improper equip. Cost him over 250 in lawyer fees and court cost. It can be done. Just not cheap.
$250 is stupid cheap!

I've had the experience of having to have an even higher speeding ticket reduced in VA, but improper equipment was not part of my lawyer's position. If I were the judge, I'd slap an add'l ticket/fine on someone claiming that crap in court. "Oh, Your Honor, I was driving like a bat out of hell because I was operating a vehicle that was faulty and possibly extremely dangerous to others."

"+$500 for being an idiot. Next."

I appealed a mild speeding conviction and got it reduced to defective equip WITHOUT a lawyer. the cop and prosecutor pulled me out of the court room and basically bargained with me. i think the court of appeals is a lot stricter on cops, so they got scared.

If it makes you feel any better, I was arrested for going 89 in a 45 with a bac of .08 (right at the legal limit). I defintely got a lawyer. I was facing 90 days in prison and I ended up with 6 months restricted and 10 weeks of aside and a rather large fine. Biggest and dumbest mistake I've ever done. Definitely will never happen again. Hopefully youll make it out ok but above all else learn from it. It's an expensive lesson but it's safe to say I'll never drink and drive or drive like an ass hat ever again. Too expensive and not worth the risk.

IIRC, I think the going rate for a speeding case is around $300. I know this because I paid $750 for mine and later realized I could've gotten more competent representation for much less
