Cops in NoVa runs a diff show. I don't care if you're from UVA, Tech or whatever, that doesn't apply here (specifically this area, Fairfax, Centreville, Reston, etc). I'd say pay the ticket because regardless of you winning or not, you'll still have to pay court fee and that cost you $57.
I think he was referring to Vermont with his "VT," not Virginia Tech.

Is not having a front plate like not wearing a seat belt used to be? About 3 years ago a cop could not pull you over for not wearing your seat belt - he could only ticket you if you were pulled over for another offense.
No. A police officer can stop a vehicle for no front license plate or for improper display of license plates on a vehicle with no moving violation. He wrote you for 46.2-715 and he should of wrote you for 46.2-711, which is Improper Display of License Plate.

That wouldn't last long if you lived in Fairfax.....
Honestly, I think it might. Not because I'm special, but because of the way I drive. I don't rip it from light-to-light. I'm old compared to the folks that post these harassment stories- I know that helps.

Peter, was I correct- there are specific measurements as to where the plate has to be displayed?

HAHA! Skip you are a rebel man!

The coolest cop I met in my life was a Fairfax county cop; well besides my Dad, he was actually the coolest. This Fairfax boy pulled me over on 66 doing 88 in a 65 zone (on my Triumph motorcycle) and warned me to be careful around the nutty Northern VA drives then sent me on my way. When I got home I had to change my underwear of course.

The law doesn't specifically say exactly where the license plate needs to be in the front, only that it needs to be mounted on the front bumper.
