Default VA. residents using radar dectectors?

I'm considering purchasing a V1 Radar detector. I spend a lot of time in VA., and I know they are illegal there. Is this law enforced regualarly. If I get one will I get a ticket. Thanks in advance.

In Henrico county (outside Richmond), fines are $40. It's the court costs that get you - $60. If you get tagged for something else that requires court costs, such as speeding, then the additional court costs for each other summons is a lot less - like $10.

I have read that fines are about $75-100. My last speeding ticket had a list of fines on the back and one was radar detectors ($40-45+court costs).

Your not likely to get a ticket it for having a detector in local jurisdictions. Most local Law Enforcement agencies don't carry Radar Detectors. What you need to look out for is plain sight. If the officer sees it in plain sight, he will confiscate it and you will get the ticket & have to pay the court fees. The funny thing about the Commonwealth of Virginia is that after you pay your ticket for possession of the detector, they actually return it to you.
I'm not endorsing the use...just trying to bring a little light to the subject. It's like anything else you do (ie. speeding) you have to be aware of the consequences.
