I think its a great idea but do you think racers are really going to pay $20 versus doing it right there for free....but its a start...

I would have to agree 20 bucks is alot to get people to stop street racing. When you are 16-20 years old 20 bucks a week is alot. A better idea would be to forget LVMS, have the city close off a street once a week in a industrial area, have the police patrol it for curfew and alcohol violators, and have the police run it. Let everyone who wants to race their car sign waivers, and have the police there to maintain order, along with an ambulance for accidents and injuries. When the waivers are signed let the racers know if they are caught racing in non-designated areas at any other times then there would be no leancy. There would be max fines and possible license suspension. This provides a controlled environment which helps the community.

Where as having it at LVMS all we are doing is padding the pockets of the greedy Bastards out there. Think about the amount of money they make on midnight mayhem, the only reason the speed way is opening on thursdays is cause they figure they could make more money not to help the community. Rather then charge 20 bucks to race they ought to just charge a $5 fee, that would more then cover their expenses.

Just some thoughts....

^^^There is only one HUGE problem with that...Insurance. It would never fly with the city. LVMS probably doesn't make as much money off of these events as people might think. Insurance for these events alone has to be through the roof. Not to mention a hefty electricity bill for running those lights at night in addition to the timing and everything else. Plus for the "Thursday Night Street Wars" they are prepping the track to NHRA specs which costs more because of the VHR they put down. Then there is the cost of running the track prep machines, paying the staff, paying to have an ambulance and a safety crew on site, a cleaning crew after the event, etc...

$20 bucks a week is too much? How much does ir cost when one of those racer kiddies runs into some innocent bystander? How much does it cost to buy that shiny new bling JDM Spoon kanudsen valve? How much does it cost to put those nasty-ass unpainted body kits on a POS 1986 ricemobile?

Give me a ing break.

$20 to race in with safety equipment and all those nice things you write about up there is cheap, and a lot less money than it would cost the city to provide. My taxes going to support illegal racing? you. Go to the speedway and do it the right way or don't do it at all.

Just some thoughts....

Talk about Insurance.... For the SCCA to do an Autocross at LVMS we are REQUIRED to have a $5,000,000 General Liability policy for the event.... Luckly the National office takes care of that. But any way. you could probably assume that the Strip would carry a similiar policy for any events they hold. Probably more considering its a spectator event.

The crap I've learned since I became solo 2 chair....
