tire shop just called.
They broke the valvestem on one of my Volk GT-U's
grrrrr.
And they are having trouble mounting the tires.
They have a brand new Hunter Tire Mounter, $20,000$ machine and they took 1 hour to do one wheel/tire.
How much you want to bet they charge me the hourly rate to mount and balance the tires....probably 3hours @ 70$ per.....
FVCK!!!!!!
And I bet I wont like the 18's or the GT-Us.

YUCKY!!! I don't wish the same on you as it did on me. Though I had a guy that had reverse mount tires.(face down on machine) Well simply he tried to cram a front tire on a rear rim! On top of that he also scratched the face of one of my rims. AND left dimples where the machine grabbed the edge of the rim.
Since then I went to a regular shop, NOT a special "tire rack recomended" special shop and they did my rims 3x now and are PERFECT. No super special machine just a person who knows WHAT THEY ARE DOING!!!!
Man I totally understand how you feel. I am right there with you.

wow, sorry to hear about this Rosso. Hearing a story like this and seeing who works at the local tire places around here make me want to just buy my 18"tires/rims from Tire-rack directly. At least this way theyll be mounted/balanced carefully already.

I did go to the shop last night.
2 Rears were done. the broken valve stem was either them over tightening it or a faulty unit. not sure.
They look good. no damage to the wheel what-so-ever.
Fronts get done today. lets hope they go ok.
I asked the service guy what he thinks they will charge me. His response was "Its not really your fault we cant mount these" be he also said his boss didnt want to continue after mounting the first tire. we will see. I expect it will be somewhere in the area of $100.

I share your pain. I recently have my rear tires replaced. The tire dealer managed to scratch up the wheels, but they sent them to a tire specialty shop and repaired them perfectly.
The name is Rimpro in Tewksbury, MA. They did a great job and my wheels look like new now.
Happy motoring!
