Just be careful on Watkins cause they don't have the same run offs like the other tracks have. Many people have destroyed their cars their.

Sorry about Mt Tremblant info. Changed to the Lightning course in NJ. Hopefully Mt T will be back. LR is pretty much a mickey mouse course execpt for the uphill and downhill.

What you are consistently missing from the points Josserman and I make is that this track is within an hour of our homes. It's extremely convenient to wake up and drive to the course, then come home at the end of the day.

This opposed to driving the night before, staying at a hotel, driving all day, then either trekking home exhausted or staying another night. Making the HPDE a 1-day ordeal is cheaper and easier for us.

I'm going to bite the bullet and get the hardog bar....I'd love a hardtop, but thats a lot more. I'm just going to run w/ stock seats and seat belt. I may also remove my seat rails to get a little lower.

But yes, I just want to be able to have a nice drive up to LR in the AM, spend the day racing and drive back down leave my house at say 6am get back around 9pm to spend the night w/ the wifey!

I wasn't trying to talk anybody into traveling farther than they wanted. Mont Tremblant is a great getaway with your wife if you can make it a long weekend/few days etc. Plan on a weekend with the bar install unless you don't want to return the interior bits that have to be removed for install.

Joserman,

I believe SCDA may allow you to run at Lime Rock with just the factory roll bar. I know their web site says no, but I would contact them and make inquiry. SCDA was going to let me run at Watkins Glen last year and one of the guys on a fall drive organized by Red Stwoky had driven at Lime Rock with them last year - factory roll bar only. SCDA, however, does not do wheel to wheel racing, if that's what you're looking for.

I was worried about the decibel level as well so I bought a decibel meter from Radio Shack for about $40. I'm about 93 dB at 30 feet at about 3,500 rpm in my MGA. Trouble is I'm so lowered that I can't fit any more muffler under the car. There seems to be no clear disclosure of what the decibel requirement at Lime Rock is. I've seen 87 and 89 dB, but Lime Rock doesn't seem to publish any figure. So I was worried, but took my chances. No one bothered me, but it was a crappy, rainy 2 days so maybe the sound police were off duty. I do know a fellow with an Allard who was black flagged on a different weekend, but he fashioned some turndowns to redirect his exhaust downward and was allright after that.

I recently contacted C.A.R.T. to see if they would let me run the S with just the factory roll bar at Lime Rock. They said no.

It might be easier to just buy a hartop.

Blueosprey,

I appreciate the advice. I have spoken to SCDA before I think an Ian something and he said I would have to pass the broom stick test.

My exhaust really is not loud at all. It's a 3" with splits into 2.75 or 2.5 dual. Plus w/ the turbo it really quiets the exhaust down. I found a local buy near me with a used hardog believe it or not . So I think I will just go that route, seems simple enough to me at this point.

I agree that having a track close to home is a good thing. NHMS is 45 min. for me. My point is that running with COM for a school/timetrial gives you instruction, trained corner workers, insurance, etc. Going to the Glen, Mosport, Mt Tremblant, etc. is a step up in challange to your abilities. the school alone is a huge learning tool for improving your driving, instead of just driving around and around.
