another how to pass Lime Rock for HPDE thread
Been doing a little research. I think I'm going to try the Car Chemistry exhaust insert in my MGA.

Another option might be a Jetex exhaust insert (English manufacturer) or a Dynamax (or Dynaflow) exhaust vortex.

Got a liitle more info a couple of days ago:
Spoke to Scott Mayo, LRP Op's Manager regarding noise testing.
The situation seems somewhat better than feared.
I suggest a prompt email to all NEQ members and MSR registered users with the following info.
Anyone can send it that the BOD/Eventmasters deem appropriate, I just want the info out there. I would deem it time critical.
Talking points:
LRP uses a basic Radio Shack noise meter, set to the "A" weighting setting.
They offset roughly 50' from the cars.
The test is normally on the front straight but no guarantee, we do not know where exactly. It is placed to find violators at any point vs being in one spot to enable lifting etc to avoid detection.
If you violate the NEQ 86 DB limit you can have another chance after some kind of effort to rectify the issue. That effort can include driving and shifting in a more moderate fashion.
If you have no way to modify the exhaust you may be permitted out again and short shift etc to try to be within limits. Failing this, you are done.
You don't get black flagged on one pass. You will be watched and repeatable offenders will be shown the black flag.
Gross violators will get the black flag quicker.
A driver who attempts real exhaust modifications and is seen even in the second violation to be attempting to comply "may" even get a third chance.
Maybe. Don't count on three strikes.
LRP will view a black flagged car which makes little or no real effort or success to reduce noise on a second attempt as done for the day.
They seem to be inclined to work with those drivers who come to play with a reasonable sounding exhaust and are there equipped to make efforts to comply.
To get black flagged you really will have to be repeatably over the limit on successive laps, not just close or a DB or two over every so often.
They are targeting enforcement on clear violators and those not working to reduce noise.
Test sessions are available. Contact Scott Mayo at 860-671-1403 or the LRP office at 860-435-5011. The best times are when the Skip Barber school is in session. Direct inquiries to LRP, not NEQ.
Numerous efforts may prove successful. SuperTrapps work. Steel wool in the exhaust can help. Turn your tips down if possible. Shift short of redline. Your max torque and HP curves typically peak below redline anyways. Drive at 8/10's and refine your line, braking and paddock socializing. You may find you are quicker. You will be quicker than not running at all.
No "stock" car has failed yet but the program is new. There is always a first. Have a plan if you are driving a noisy ride, stock or modified.
Advanced and Instructor run groups are the worst offenders. Guess which ones Scott Mayo will be out there testing in?
Enjoy LRP. A DB or two less may not be a reason to not go. We will have some issues. The folks at LRP respect an effort but must enforce this adjustment.
Hopefully all can pass!
