Avoiding insurance increases after being ticketed?
I had a lame "harassment" speeding ticket in my NSX once.
I contested in court but still had to pay the fine.
Nope, the overpayment doesn't work.
RMV sent me a check back for $6.66, hee, hee ;-)
But it's fun just doing that to increase the bureaucratic overhead.
So always add that extra $6.66, for the hell of it.

Well, I'm not sure what to say about all this, but her is my best attempt.
1) some people have tried the overpayment process and it worked, for others it did not.
2) The mass DMV site says it does not, but they don't know what they speak!
3) I say the above because I clearly remember going with my dad to the Portuguese Headquarters of their version of DMV as a kid to get his "international drivers license". It was not a scam by some third party company through the mail. My brother has used one, I'll get the details, I think he got a ticket here using one!! (more later). BTW this is in reference to the Myth#2 on that website.
4) I know from my own experience that in CT, you DO get points on you license when you pay the ticket and plead NOLLO. It happened to me several time before I started contesting them. (unless this changed in the last 10 years).
5) my assessment is that the outcome is based upon the disposition of whom is behind the counter/bench/computer. My most recent ticket was in December of '01, in Milford CT on I95. I was going 79 in a 55MPH. The trooper lowered it to 70 in a 55. I plead not guilty and a few weeks later got a notice that the charges were dropped and I would not have a court date, nothing to pay, no points. How did that happen? I DON"T KNOW!!!!!
So, best option, get a good radar detector, drive cautiously and hope for the best.
