Is it bad? Freaking VW
Yesterday, I ran a little low on gas and the fuel night came on. Then my engine light came on and stayed on for a whole day plus this morning.
When I went to checked my car just now. It is gone. I know I maintain my VW pretty well, you know, never miss an oil change,..tune up....etc.
I wonder what caused this.
Is it common for VW to behave like that?
Just curious.

I had a couple of VWs in my time and they always stayed right where I parked them. I would say this was caused by either vehicle theft or failure to put the e-brake on while parked on a hill. If you were parked on a hill, go check the bottom of the hill and see if your car is there. Oh, you might ask Svetlana if she borrowed your car. That may be why it is gone.
I had that same problem with a '68 VW many years ago. It was low on fuel. I drove it home one evening and parked near my house. The next morning I went out to check on it and it was indeed gone. Turns out it was stolen and used as a getaway car in a murder. What a PITA that became as I had to prove I did not authorize that use of my vehicle. No doubt a much bigger disappointment for the murder victim.
Is this an engineering oversight by VW that has existed all these years? Perhaps low fuel portends auto theft. We should check some VW forums.

The check engine coming on probably has nothing to do with being a bit low on fuel.
What kind of engine does your passat have anyway? What were you doing when it went on?
That fact that it went out means that it is not an ongoing problem and may not even return. If I'm not mistaken, the light goes out if you drive the car for a period of time without the problem occuring.
Go find the car and don't worry about it. If it comes on again, have someone pull the code.
Bill........you are killing me
