Default Checkup before spring

3 1/2 years 65K miles Good now that I got your attention. I need to know what stuff I should be checking on my S to be sure it keeps running in tip top condition!

I am going to be silicone spraying down all the CV joint boots to get them nice and pliable again. Same goes for the hoses under the hood. Grease up the door jams and hindges. Checking the brake pads/lines. Changing the tranny oil again.

Questions:
Should I do a fogger on the engine to clean the carbon out? I saw something a while back that said to do it before the engine got TO OLD in case some of that carbon was keeping holes shut.

I have not done a radiator flush ever. Though I hear it goes for what 5 years? Brake fluid gets moved out regularly!

Its got a new batterie. New spark plugs and the coils look ok. Clutch will probably need replacing in a year.

Is there anything else that I should be doing some "preventative" maintenance on? I want to be sure the car is in as good condition as possible before I put Cams/V-AFC on it.

I might try to do a leak down test to check compression(if I can find somebody with one) and if sombody had a scope small enough to look through the spark plug hole I would do that too.

away!

Jim,
Dont forget to shinetsu the rubber seals around the soft top. Perhaps use a leather cleaner/conditioner on the leather surfaces/seats too. And, coolant should be flushed every two years after the initial 3 years is up (according to the manual). Also might want to check/tighten the bolts on the undercarriage/suspension, etc. I know there is a lot more, but thats all I can think of right now

I will top off the coolant with some more distilled water. Lean out the mix since summer is coming. I will get a coolant flush sometime this summer.

shinetsu/leather treatment will be done when the temps get a bit warmer. Its a for sure though.

OK, enough is enough!! I have heard everyone talking about this shinetsu thing for so long. I have kept quiet and not asked what it is, but I can hold myself no longer. OK, seriously, what is it?

Shin-Etsu grease is a silicone based grease that is recomended by honda to be put on all seals of the car. Hard top/doors/trunk/hood rubber seals. It helps to keep the seals pliable and soft. It also helps keep out dirt/water from getting past those seals. Though in keeping OUT dirt it also attracts it.

This will leave a little grease mark on the top of your window if you don't take it off well enough. Though it won't hurt anything.

Jim do you have the Hondata Gasket or Mugen/Spoon temp sensor/fan switch? If yes, then wasn't your coolant flushed then?

If no, then you should have Ken install that stuff for you this summer if you are going to bother taking the time and spending the money on a coolant flush, have him do the other stuff at the same time and save a few $$ on labor.

I had the thermostat from Mugen installed but I think they probably only topped it all off. Not a full flush. That gasket is cheap but DAMN hard to put in. I might see what he would charge to do that and put in the fan switch. I probalby will do a coolant flush at the end of the summer and see if I want to do the gasket/fan switch.

Oh BTW........you blew by me today on the highway without even a hazard hello.

Dana:
I was thinking of putting nitrogen into the tires for a more consistant air temp(no lie)...........though finding a nitrogen filling station has proved elusive.

I just bought some silicone spray. Did my whole engine bay. Next is all the CV boots and fender liners after a really good scrubbing.

Anything else?
