Default Crisis averted

Quick background is that I had a Spark Plug back out of my #2 cylinder and bounded around a bit. I used a TimeCert to replace the threads.

As I have time to look at the engine over the winter among other things I decided to re-torque the plugs and #2 moved more than the others so I pulled them all out to look at them.

Verdict is that they all look good. Put them back in and after what seemed like more turning than it should have the #2 clicked at 22 foot pounds. I guess I will need to keep checking the #2 every thousand miles(or few months)

So now on to replacing brake lines and re-painting the calipers.

Yeah me too!

Still can't find anyone local with a BoreOscope so I am saying F-it and just gonna keep driving it. Maybe next winter I will pony up the money for one of my own.

I had a plug back out and destroy the engine years ago. There was a notice about loose plugs and Honda upper the torque spec 2 ft/lbs. My car had the plugs retorqued at a dealer and still backed out.Honda paid for an entire new engine. I upped the torque on the new engine's plugs considerably with no problem. i think the spec is 22 ft/lbs or something way too low.

havent changed my plugs since i got my latest s2000. Ive had it since 2 years ago. totally forgot about checking plugs so thanks for the reminder. It has 60k on it and is a 04. My evo I used to have to change every 5000 miles. The older I get, the less anal I am with my cars. Its a bad sign.

And charged you over $2k in labor if I remember correctly. Never mind the afternoon I spent diagnosing the problem and the $200 on tools and repair kit that never got used because you went to Honda

And yes 22ft-lbs is not enough normally.

Since I have the Valve Cover off I said why not do a valve adjustment! Bought the feeler gauges and the jamnut/screw driver tool. Small investment for piece of mind and not spending a hundred bucks+ to have someone else do what I am capable of.

Results virtually all valves out of spec except for #4's exhaust which was fine. Some were just so tight I swear it must have been riding the cam! I will be re-checking the clearances before I put the valve cover back on and after 60K miles and 8 years I think I will replace the valve cover gasket too! It feels like it needs to be replaced.

Next up is to move onto cutting off my exhaust tip(passenger side) and preying I can get the bolt out of the drivers side so I can install AP2 tips. Years ago I tried to take the tip off the passenger side and the bolt head just flat broke off! Hence the necessity to cut it off the car.

After that it's on to brake lines and calipers.

Picked up a super cool work bench at Costco for a Christmas/Birthday present.(returned a Harbor Freight one I never put together)

Building a backer for the bench to fill gap between the pegboard and the table. Mounted a Tripplite Power Strip to the peg board.

Will probably get a light to go under the cabinets eventually.

Super excited about it. Can continue getting organized in the garage! It's only been 3 years since I moved in.

I still need to learn to do a valve check/adjustment. I also need to work on my garage, too, as I've got tools and boxes all over the place.

I was spoiled from my Dad's garage, which had heat and centrail air conditioning. He snagged a whole set of kitchen cabinets and counters from a house being renovated, and put those up as well.
I have some spare cabinets to put up, and I'll probably buy cheap Ikea cabinets I can find to put up in other places, as well as get a sink in there. (H&C water spigots are already there.) I also plan to get the pre-fab formica countertops that you can get at Home Depot/Lowes for use as general work bench areas along the sides of the garage.

Kitchen stuff really works well in garages. And you don't have to worry about matching hardware or colors...
