Default Do you use the sun block?

My latest issue of Boaters Life it had a big section about sun block. I thought I was doing fine by putting the SPF 50 all over my head, arms and legs and wearing a white T shirt and shorts. this article said that you need to re-apply every 2 hours no matter what SPF you use. It also said that light clothing is only equal to about 5 SPF and you should either use the sunblock under your shirt, or buy clothes with a higher SPF.

So I ask you, do you use sun-block. If so, what SPF, do you apply it under your shirt and do you reaply?

On Saturday at Lime Rock it was 85+ and sunny 100% of the time. I had SPF45 on my exposed skin ONLY with 1 application and I got no burn in 10 hours of sun.

I use sunblock on my face everyday regardless of the season but that's only SPF 15. I use SPF 15 when i'm at the beach but I do re-apply every two hours or so.

then again I am Mexican so I can tolerate some sun

Airshow last month - SPF40 on exposed skin - no burn after 7 hours. Becky had to reapply on her shoulders - but she's reallllly fair skinned.

So do you think those reapply and use under your clothes warnings are just to sell a bunch of product?

If you do not burn, could you still be doing damage?

I'm relatively fair skinned and have never burned under even white t shirts. I use spf30 on my face and ears and wear a baseball cap (properly) if I'm going to be out for a long time. My arms are pretty well tanned so I don't bother. If I were to be out for an extended day, I would apply it more extenssively to EXPOSED skin. I wouldn't bother with the reapplication. It does seem the sun block people are saying youshould use massive amounts and reapply massive amounts on a regular basis just to sell more product.
