Ok Jerry's almost entirely baseless scientific prediction time:

they may find that skin cancer is also related to a virus.
Normally the body has immunity to said virus....but when the bodies resistance has been compromised by a sunburn or UV irradiated skin it loses it's immunity and becomes susceptible to developing cancer.

The virus gets a toehold and away it goes.

then again I could be full of....

My Mom was Greek, so I started life with dark skin. Being of a "certain age" I spent years laying on the beach. No damage YET. My primary care doc did say once upon a time that I was on my way to being a very well tanned corpse.

I virtually never use any sort of sunscreen. Back in my beach days I'd slather myself with baby oil.

I use SPF45 everyday. I am out in the sun for at least several hours each day - be it driving top down, walking, or biking - so I still get the farmer's tan. I need to find some stronger stuff.

Me too... Only started using sunscreen in the last 5years or so. Sun never bothered me because I was always outside until I started this corporate BS. Now use SPF 30 before beach or going for top down.

The burn you got umpteen years ago as an unprotected youngin' can lead to skin cancer in your adult years. Yes, a sunburn can lead to skin cancer, however just because you don't burn doesn't mean you're not doing damage. It's all the UV rays that can do unseen damage as well. Bottom line - protect yourselves, however you can, within reason. Use sunscreen, hats and protective clothing - pretty simple.

Yes, I use a 30 because that is what I have, I also have that in a lip balm, and, if I'm going to be in the sun all day like a long drive or at the track, I wear a Nike DRYFit long sleeve white shirt to keep the sun off my arms, which actually keeps me cooler. If I do anything wrong it is not re-applying the sunblocker often enough.
