I think so too. BUT, I would not mind not having an oil tank in the basement. A friend of ours had his give out. The mess was not that bad as it was a minor leak, but what a PIA, and the smell of oil in his house lasted quite a while.

We put in a new heating system about 18 years ago. I wanted to switch to gas then, but I lost that battle.

You gotta buy the conversion burner, and the removal of the oil tank is a good idea....I'd guess we'd get out of it for a couple K or so. It would likely pay itself off pretty quickly. We'll burn the tank of oil we have and take it from there.

I have NG too. I have not checked the price lately. Are we saving all that much compared to oil?
In simple terms from highest to lowest cost it is Propane, oil, natural gas.

For me, the key is not so much the savings as the I pay for what I use per month. I don't have to find some $1,000 to afford a gas truck to show up and give me 200 gallons.

Excellent brief info!

When I was forced to buy a new furnace last year the incentives/rebates made the decision for me to go to a top line furnace very easy as the rebates go up as the efficiency rating goes up.

My parents always had outside submerged tanks because of the smell, and the potential leaking issues inside the house. Friends of mine have a 250 gallon tank in the basement, and I cringe everytime I'm there and see the stain below it from previous leaks. And that smell, it hits me like a brick to the head as soon as I open his basement door.

I knew bringing it (natural gas) into the home was free. We have gas for cooking, dryer and hot water now.

I should check into it, but I'd really like to use up the $1000 worth of in our tank first..... Also, I wonder what a run on conversions will end up doing to the price of natural gas.

Just called NStar. They don't do the work, but refer you to local plumbers.

Also, gave me the name of a company that will remove an above ground oil tank for $350.00. Reasonable, I think. Of course I should use the oil first.

So, I guess there is no rush....once I start using up oil, we'll know where the price of oil is, and I can get prices to convert at that time.
