We have the Garmin nuvi 350 and totally love it. We would not be without one again. It's great to have on road trips, getting to car meets, etc..
There are many others out there. The main difference between our Nuvi 350 and the Garmin 200 is that the 350 speaks the name of the street, where as some of the others say only "turn left", though the street name will be displayed on the screen.
I'm sure others will give you their .02 as well.
I picked up our Nuvi 200 for cheap <$200 and it has been awesome. Sarah has taken it all over the country with work and it's never skipped a beat.
It isn't packed with all the bells and whistles, but it's compact and cheap. Basically the reason I bought it

Thomas gave me his old alpine unit - and it works great
i gave my mom tomtom 720 for xmass - all the cool features such as bluetooth, fm modulator, wide screen, text to speech - all the stuff she'll never use!!

I am looking at the Nuvi 660. In the end... my wife will likely use it more than me. I want the wider screen and street name speech. Bluetooth for the wife, which means I need to buy her a new phone... Maybe I will buy a map instead.

And if you decide against the GPS, join AAA, then you get the maps for free.
Maps =
GPS Actually, we use our GPS, but always make sure we have maps for the areas we will be traveling in.
the only thing I'm not crazy about on the 660 is the FM interface to the car.
on long trips, you drift in and out of radio stations and need to retune a lot.
I just wish I had a separate audio input but my stupid radio doesn't have it.
i have a 4 gig sd card for mp3's. so you don't miss the radio.
