Just saw ads from Chrysler and Jeep guaranteeing you gas at 2.99/gallon for the next 3 years. No real details, I assume they pay the difference. Wonder how many other car companies will try this kind of thing to sell more vehicles.

2.99... what a bargain

The gas companies have us trained that that is a good price. WTF!

Looks like they will lose their shirts, can you imagine how much this is going to cost them. On the other hand I see them selling a ton of vehicles.

The limit is 12,000 miles per year.
assume 25 MPG and your talking about 480 gallons.
so figure max of 960 per year.
so that's maybe 5 grand over the three years.
and as rebates go they pay it out over three years.

oh and that only covers 87 octane gas.

ahh, the real story comes out. You gotta love how they advertise in the media VS the fine print!

I guess I'm just the trusting type.

I trust that I better read the fine print.
being an eng-a-neer does a pretty good job of turning you into a lawyer when you've read enough specs.
It's all in the semantics and they still screw it up.

Yeah, they only pay the difference above $2.99 a gallon, so I highly doubt it'll ever get to be $5k/vehicle, as you'd have to get 12 MPG or gas would have to go to $5 a gallon. Even at $5 a gallon average over the next 3 yrs, a 20 MPG car would only cost Chrysler $3600. Cash back rebates and other random incentives aren't much different, especially considering that this one takes 3 years to realize.

I just got home a few minutes ago from doing exactly that. I actually describe a lot of what I do as "lawyer work" because we have trials where we present our evidence to the Navy, we cite precedent from other situations in the past, and everything is documented and filed. I pretty much told one of my co workers that instead of going to trial with the Navy, he's going to have to settle out of court. And by "settle" I mean strap his item to a floating barge and set off explosives

The gas offer from them is literally a stroke of genius in marketing though. Think about how many people will get sucked in by it.
