There is this little German company called Mercedes Benz. you may have heard of them but anyway, I think they sort of have a little lead on Honda here.
Next year they have a series of diesel hybrids coming out that are super efficient.
E class with 200+ hp and still 55 mpg.
But they don't sell cheap cars. I'd expect VW to make the biggest diesel impact.

I disdain Mercedes Benz. I know you love them and that's great, but when it comes to MB, I'm a hater...
OK Doug. You hate MB, and you hate Porsche. Do you hate all German cars, or just these two marques? ...and why?

"with no antagonistic intent whatsoever" Which is exactly the intent behind my statement also by the way...

I have been a BMW fan for so very, very long. So it is sort of like if you are a Ford fan you despise Chevy. I'm a BMW fan, period. And as we BMW heads like to say - do you know the differnece between BMW and MB? Mercades makes luxury cars and tosses in performance. BMW makes performance cars and tosses in luxury.

And please, don't get me started on The Smart

Bingo. Only a few more weeks, so I hear, 'til the new 50-state "CleanDiesel" TDIs hit the Jetta lineup.

I'm not an M-B hater, though they're not my favorite Bavarian brand. Erick is right, though, most people who can afford a Benz don't really need to budget their gas money, so it'll really only lure people already in the market for a luxury car.

[QUOTE=elmmx5,Jul 10 2008, 08:32 AM] Well... then I wish they'd update the hybrid system and sell me the Insight still.

MB answer already provided...

And again, I'm more than happy to say these are emotional based, and I'm ok with that.

Porsche also sort of includes Audi and VW, but really I just dislike those two, my passion against Porsche is stronger.

It infuriates me, it is so not what I'm into, that a 1963 901 looks exactly like a 2008 911. What the hell, in some 45 years they have not been aboe to come up with a new idea? There is not a single Ferrar today that looks anything like something from their stable 45-years ago.

And let's not forget, the damn P-cars are the bane of many race teams. I know and respect the car's accomplishments for sure, but from a design point of view, I just want to barf on the 911.

It has nothing to do with them being German. In fact you can deliver to my door a new Z4 M Coupe any day of the week, thank you very much!

And trust me, I have no problem with that. What MB and VW are doing from a technology point of view I think is great, I applaud them, I just don't get emotionally excited by their designs, and for me, the art major here, how it looks is a HUGE part of the equasion for me.

Well, I agree on the Z4 M coupe. I love that car. I'd just as happily take a Caymen S though.
