Default Goin on Vacation to florida

I'm leaving for florida the 27th, and taking the S and passenger. Any tips for a good and comfortable trip? Storage of clothing, preventing paint chips, bugs, etc etc. PLaces of interest to stop? Oil change perhaps? My first long distance trip ever so thats why i'm looking for advice lol.

Yeah rent a car you can beat on

Putting 3000 miles on your car is gonna suck big time. <-- IMO

I would stop in NYC and in DC. South of the border to pick me up some bunch of fireworks <-- and yes I'm very serious!!

Have a good trip!

Hey Matt

get in touch with Dan aka Macgyver. He just moved to FL before you joined us.. Dan knows most of the FL guys already

Also i would second John's point about renting a car. The S is just too small for a 24 hour ride ( i once took a corolla down and it sucked) figure with your stuff, snacks, possable rain (the stock tires suck in the rain) ..

if you plan to take the S - I also know that Dan drove his to DC - and what he did to prevented rock chips was to use a poor man's clear bra - he took clear shelf linner and covered his hood and nose (yes it looked pretty funny but it did work) - take an old small towel and put it behind the leather in your driver's seat for extra lumbar support..

South of the Boarder i'll never forget all those damn bill boards - "Pedro says you'll be a weiner if you don't stop" You'll see big tourest trip but you have to stop

and lastly Post your post in the FL section - The S guys around the country and world are all pretty damn nice so they can help you with places to see and places to shop

Have fun

Best
steve

btw....I have also driven to Florida back in 1995. Disney trip then with Girlfriend. It's not that bad if you are on vacation for about two weeks.

If you only have one week, then it will be a stretch. Hopefully the distruction that Isabel left behind won't be a hinder by the 27th.

ok i'm back.... The ride was good. Traffic goin down was only a problem in CT, as well as the only rain I hit. I got a surprising 310 miles out of my tank with 2 lines left to go.
The weather was perfect everyday, night time temps of 60-70ish, thankfully i had no rock chips, although my windshield took a nick, bugs weren't much of a problem because the florida ants that infested my car (They ate the bugs off my bumper)they found some cake in my trunk and it took several days to get rid of them all. On my way back up I stopped and met with w1ngman from VA who baked up my headlights for me. Caught bad traffic in NJ because of a jackknifed 18 wheeler, and huge pile up. New York sucked with its surprising last minute potholes, cracks, uneven half paved roads. I felt so bad for my car. And while i was down there with my new girlfriend took some really really good pictures

I'll add more as I upload the rest.
