I've been warned before for not having a front plate and I still keep it off. From what I understand, it's something like a $35 fine in MA and it isn't a moving violation so it won't affect insurance rates. I guess if the same cop started giving me those tickets once a week, I'd think differently. But, so far I'm only had one warning for it in the last 10 years or so.
i've got pulled over b4 but no written warning

I got pulled over on Rt. 95 in Maine about 9 months ago for no front plate. I got a $165 fine though. Front plate has been on ever since!

Ayuh, Maine sux for that and they almost always right you a tix, I got my front plat eon and its staying on.
When I got my S last month, it had a 2006 inspection sticker, no front plate, and the sticker and plate didn't match. The guy drove it every day and never got pulled over. BUT, the first thing I did was fix those and make it legal, it's not worth the tickets, loss of license for somthing so trivial.
I took my plate off last year and its been off ever since.
Problem is, that back in August I had to go get an inspection sticker and the guy told me he wouldn't pass me until I put the plate back on(thankfully, I have the hardware and plate in the trunk at all times). So I went to put the plate on and the threaded insert in the bumper fell inside!
Anyone had that happen to them? I haven't tried to get it out yet, is it difficult?

When it comes time to get a sticker, I just wire tie my place to the front grill. After I've passed, I just clip it off.

When I got my bumper plugs I ended up doing the same thing. Took me close
to 2 1/2 hours to run a bent paper clip through one of the holes in the insert, get
it to a point where I could feed the bolt into the other hole and get it semi-secured
in the holes long enough for me to put the bumper plug on. The problem is that
there is no access to the bumper that I could find (without taking the bumper off)
other than those 2 holes, which doesn't give you much space. What a huge PITA but
I was determined to not have my front plate bracket on any longer.

FTR, I haven't run a front plate in the 3+ years I've owned the car and driven in
NH, MA, CT, NY and all the states to/from the Dragon and never had an issue.

Just take the bumper off. You'd have saved all sorts of time. Rick's has real nice instructions as past of the instructions for installing clear headlight diffusers.
I attached my front plate with plastic push-type bumper fasteners, easy on/easy off. Maybe the local cops are strict here, or maybe it's the huge Trooper precence, but it's pretty easy to rack up infractions for dumb stuff here.
