Default Got a ticket today

its 2am just got out of work and drove by the cop and knew I was busted. So I pulled right over turned my interior lights on and put my hands on the wheel. Cop comes up and says I was doing 83 in a 50. Then gives me a ticket for 85 in a 50. Gee what a nice guy. My question is. My ticket has an error on it. It list me as the owner of the vehicle. and the car is in my girls name. shouldnt the ticket have to be correctly written. Im thinking if he was not paying attention when he filled out the ticket the how could he be sure he was paying attention when he saw me speeding.

it depends on what state your in.
Mass used to allow you to get off on grammatical errors but they allowed those to get fixed a long time ago.

I don't think you have much on the fact you're not the owner of the car. The ticket is for the operator- regardless of who owns the vehicle, you were wrong.
Interesting though he told you he clocked you at 83 but cited you for 85 - might have something there. Me?- I'd write not guilty on that one and take it to court. Come clean - its not like you weren't speeding, but you weren't doing what is writen on the ticket - even if the difference is 2mph. Cases have been lost over less. Seems like he may have wanted to give you the max - once you exceed 85mph you can be cited for reckless driving in CT.

Sec. 14-222. Reckless driving. ... ...The operation of a motor vehicle upon any such highway, road or parking area for ten cars or more at a rate of speed greater than eighty-five miles per hour shall constitute a violation of the provisions of this section.
