Group spark plug update
This board will give you an advantage over those owners who do not participate. Strength is in numbers, especially well informed numbers that work together to insure we take care of our selves.

I went to my local dealership today (which is Majestic Honda in West Warwick) I asked if they were making appointments for the spark plugs on the S2000. At first the guy had no clue to what I was talking about. Then he asked someone in the back, and said yes we are but we only have 4 sets of them. So I made an appointment for Monday. It just seems funny to me that we know more then the local dealerships. You think Honda would notify all the dealerships to let them know whats going on.

I've got an appt. at Lundgren Honda (Auburn) for Wed. 4-Sep. If they mess with me like Boch has messed with you, Bass, I will be pretty ticked.
I asked them if they could just give me the kit (I wanted to do it myself), but they said no. I asked them if I could look over the mechanic's shoulder -- no problem.
I'm doing my first (3750) oil change myself tomorrow. Lookin' forward to a little "quality time" with my car.

Hi guys,
A little blood and several trips to Wal-Mart and Sears later, I've completed my first oil change on the S2000.
Haven't done an oil change in about 10 years, and I see that Honda still cranks on the oil filter unreasonably tight. I remember now why I like to do this myself; next time'll be easy!
I took it from other s2ki members that the replacement Honda filter sucks, so I found a very good Fram filter ("X2") at Wal-Mart, and it seems to be of good construction. I couldn't locate a Mobil 1 filter, so I went with the Fram.
Roland, I think I've seen most of the recent debates in the under hood and car talk forums about oil changes. The only concensus I took away from those discussions is that you must avoid synthetic oil until the engine is broken in. I think that's even stated somewhere in the owner's manual, and I recall an offical-looking letter from Honda which someone posted on the subject.
As far as the initial break-in is concerned, the shop manual says that 3750mi intervals are the "extreme condition" intervals, and 7500mi intervals are normal. No verbiage about the break-in is mentioned. The oil in my car was pretty black, so I think I made the right judgement call to do a change at the extreme interval. I put in good ole' Quaker State, and I'll wait for synthetic until I don't burn any more oil between intervals.
By the way, you might be confusing the 6K number you quoted with the metric interval... 6000km is the metric "extreme" interval.
Take care! -- Charlie

I have a very positive report for service done at Chambers Comm Ave site.
Two weeks ago I had my plugs changed and a cheapo oil and filter change there.
No problems ( no performace change to me either).
Last week I had seat belt retractors and the bumper peel repaint done (they use Allston Auto Works I think).
Perfect on both counts (and I am very picky about visual stuff).
They even had my replacement boot cover in stock.
