Steve,

I pitched the idea to my wife and this outside furnace might be a serious idea for us.

I just have a few ??? if you don;t mind since you are the wood guru

Is that price of 5-7k, is that installed and ready to go you think?

Can I totally eliminate my oil furnace and tank if I have this installed?

Buring round the clock like you say, how many cords of wood per season would you suppose I would burn in aproximatly 1300-1400 sq ft. home?

Can I burn pine in it safely?

How much does it cost to have a lumberjack come and chop down trees in my yard and then leave it for me to split/stack myself?

I know it's alot of questions, but I was thinking of them the whole night while I was in class

everything and i mean everything you ever wanted to know about OWB (outdoor wood burners) can be found here

http://www.hearth.com/econtent/index.php/f...s/viewforum/21/

this section is just for outdoor wood burners

but as far as i know

yes 5 to 7k installed is about right and do you have forced hot water now or forced hot air? these run with forced hot water - if it was me i would tie it into my current furnace just in case say you guys want to leave for a week - the house will still have heat

most guys say 5 to 7 cords.. there is log guy by me that sells 5 cords of logs for 350.00 and you'll have a lot less work because you can cut/ split much bigger

Yes you can burn pine - it's an old wives tale that you can't- that's really all they burn out on the west coast - when dry it burns hot and fast hence the reason people like hard wood - good heat and it takes a log time to burn - i should have at least 2 cords of pine when i cut / split the one that was dropped in the spring

lumberjack prices vary - i got lucky and had a HUGE pine dropped for 300 BUT it was a 3k job all day long.. i bet if you do details with the tree guys they would cut you a break - also it's great to be friends with tree guys because they would drop logs for free so they don't have to pay to dump it

Cool, we actually know a lumberjack so that might help. I wonder if they like big stacks of pancakes like on TV...

I have forced hot air right now. Am I looking at extra cost to set that up?

How tough is it to get one of these fires lit? Especially if you are saying I can use green wood.

Must be easy to clean the chimney, huh?

ya it's a short stack to clean

i would get a good fire going first with dry stuff and then toss in the green wood

best advise i can give you is talk to a few dealers and people who own them

I think there is a guy on Route 6 Dartmouth who was selling these things, Jeff.
