I would probably trash the laptop if the power supply, circuit board or backlight went out, but a HD is an easy and cheap part to replace and was meant to be replaced, so my suggestion would be to just do that.

A Mac Pro dual booting isn't a bad option either if you don't mind spending $1500 just to surf the net, read your email and listen to some music. I myself don't think that is worth it if my other option is just replacing a HD to fix the problem.

As for HD brands, especially in the world of laptops, Hitachi is the most reliable in my opinion.

I've changed my mind. That thing is ancient. Trash it and pick up one of the Compaq widescreen laptops they sell at Best buy for around $600. I have been using mine for over a year now in my cruiser. Imagine the abuse the thing takes going over bumps at high speeds in the city on our crappy roads, plus the heat fluctuations and running all the time and being taken in and out shift after shift. If that didn't kill it, nothing will.

The only problem I ever had with it was when my son picked off several letters from the keyboard. A new keyboard was $25 shipped on ebay and it took minimal skill to install. Not a bad deal.

Heres a screen shot of OSX and Windows XP running in the same environment at the same time

Show me a pc that can do that LOL

Guess it depends on your budget Bill and your needs .

I look at it this way , a Civic can do the same thing as your BMW , but its uncomfortable , noisy , lacks power , controls are cheap , ride sucks .

Same goes for a Dell vs Mac

Oh and you will never see this again

Wow... Photoshop is one of those free programs that you didn't have to buy because the Mac has everything?

Scott, I agree with you 100%. Is the Mac store the best place to buy? I understand there are discounts you can get if you are a member of certain organizations or professions. Is there a list of those somewhere?

LOL actually it was free as I have a windows hacked copy LOL .

I also use the windows side for my Quick Books as I already owned a copy .

It was to show windows and OSX run flawlessly together and no need to re-buy all the software you might have for windows . I can even dock windows programs in the OSX dock for quick startup .

What is cool is you can open a image in preview and edit it without having to open iPhoto or PS

What can your do ...oh wait LOL I FORGOT

OT -So other than S2Ki hows life been treating you Eric

I bought mine at a Mac Store .

And yes there are discounts for organizations or professions . I went with Giles and used his .

I am not sure where to find the list of Affiliates to see if you qualify . I will ask Giles if he knows .

you can buy a "refurb" online from

http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebO...lm=CertifiedMac

they still come with a full year of warranty and usually these are just models that Apple has discontinued.
