We actually had that same model, minus the leather and carbon and they were recalled due to the hinges trapping kids fingers. We now have this one and the thing rocks.

Stroller

Now I'm just working on the Recaro child seats, for the next one.
Yeah, this Maclaren comes with the zip-over nylon pouches that protect the hinges from getting fingers caught in 'em.

I like the Recaro kid seats. We're not there yet, though...

The reason they were recalled is because of inept parents not that there is a problem with the product. I have the effected stroller and honestly only way that could happen is if the kid was holding the stroller while you opened/closed it. Seriously.......I lived through what would never be allowed on the market today. Heck your parents probably rode around in the back seat of a car in a laundry basket held in by nothing!

It's a different world out there now but survival of the fittest doesn't hold true any more. It's sad.

I think that's why the status quo is getting dumbed down...

I thought the same thing when I read about the recall... not that every circumstance can be prevented, but why would a finger be in a hinge when you close the stroller?

That's like saying a house door or car door is unsafe because I could slam my kid's head in it. Some things just require common sense and situational awareness.

It's always someone else's fault.

Maybe it's insensitive of me to mention, but kid's fingertips can actually grow back... it's the only external part of the human body that can regenerate.
