I'm thinking of moving
As most of you know I currently live in the heart of suburbia where I'm the only person in my entire neighborhood without a kid let alone is single. Not to mention I spend most of my time in Providence anyways so why not move there?
The of course it will mean most of my cost of living will go up - unless I get a multifamily home and live in one of them. But it might still mean I give the M3 and have only one car
Any thoughts? Am I out of my mind? What factors haven't I thought about. Discuss and let's stick on point. Remember it's all about me

City living isn't for everyone...living in a multi family can help out with expenses, but also give you lots of headaches. Getting good tenants who pay their rent and don't trash the place can be a PIA. Anything they break, you'll have to fix.. Are you a handy guy that can fix stuff, or do you have to hire out help for a dripping faucet? If not handy, do you know how much plumbers charge?
It's probably cheaper to continue to drive to Providence for your entertainment
and fun, that it would be to move there.
IF, however, you are unhappy with your present living situation, you should check it out. Selling the M3 would be a bummer, but we will still like you, even if you drive a Chevy.

Maybe not if it is owner occupied, but there have been many locally who walked away from multi families....not sure how kindly the banks are looking upon mortgages for those.
JT, where do you work? Would moving to PVD now mean a commute to work?
I think you're nuts. I lived in Boston for a couple years and there were a lot of great things about it. But I had more than my fill of it by the time I left. The main thing I disliked about it was the my inability to keep a decent car. I disliked having to find parking every time I wanted to go out, I disliked having just about every car I owned vandalized in some way while living there, and I disliked not having the ability to do what I wanted to at my place without worrying about neighbors or roommates.
Living in the suburbs isn't perfect, but I'm able to do things there that I wouldn't be able to dream of if I stayed in the city. I loved having tons of stuff to do right nearby, but that just wasn't enough for me to change my whole way of living over the long term. I still enjoy visiting the city, I just would never choose to live there again.

My parents had a multi-family when I was growing up.
My guess is you have no idea what your signing up for.
old pipes, lead paint, bad heating systems and wiring, roofs, rats, mice and worst of all, tenants.
no clean spacious garage, and your giving up your privacy.
in short WTF are you thinking man?
