just some thoughts.. about some stuff
So...I guess S2KI isn't a real club because it's not exclusive enough, Jeff?
I mean, S2KI has meets. Has events. Has a website. Has dues that distinguish between "member" and "guest." But, since it's not exclusive to the NE area, it's not a club? Or is it just because you decide that it's not a club that it's not a club?
Or, maybe it's because NES2KO doesn't have a forum? So, if S2KI were to ditch the forums and just have dues and leech of another site's forums (S2KCA) then it'd be a real club too?

So if im reading this correct you have to BUY your nes2ko badge by paying in the membership fee. Correct? I surely did not pay a fee and i surely did not get a badge.

I posted the question above about the s2ki dues and what you get for them? So, tell me what do you get besides communication for your fee?
The nes2ko dues offer something that a club needs: insurance, help with funding of events etc...
When s2ki provides that, I guess it will be a club too.
I won;t hold my breath.
If my posts are off base, it's because there is no clear differentiation between NES2KO and S2KI except that you don't consider S2KI to be a club.
This is the exact reason that Dave is posting that NES2KO needs to determine what exactly it is, what it's purpose is, and then go out of it's way to make that clear to everyone here. As far as I understand it, NES2KO is a "club" that holds events via the S2KI forums (which is not a club, just a forum, even though it holds events)

Ahhh, but it's really not that simple, Jeff. If it were, then we wouldn't be having this discussion.
I have to agree with what Dave posted. If you NES2KO'ers want a NES2KO club - then by all means, have it. Just don't bring it to S2KI. S2KI is a club in and of itself. At this point in time, you're using S2KI for NES2KO business.
Now, if you want to have a NES2KO meet where S2KI people are welcome, then by all means, post it up. But using S2KI forums for your NES2KO club discussions is hardly an upstanding and upfront manner for use of the S2KI forums.
If NES2KO were more of a shell club, simply used to put on official meets so there would be insurance coverage, that would be a different story. However, NES2KO is not run that way, and it's not introduced that way, and we here at S2KI are not treated that way.
This isn't a case of having your cake and eating it to. NES2KO either needs to be it's own club (with it's OWN forums for scheduling meets/events/etc), or it needs to be used as a means of providing insurance for S2KI club meets. But mixing the two is only serving to upset people and make the few of us that don't care to pay 2 sets of dues for 2 different clubs feel imposed on when NES2KO appears to need the S2KI forums to conduct it's business and then have it's members inform us that we S2KI'ers are not a club. F***, I'll say it - at least we have our own forums...
I actually stopped going to as many Metro meets after I was told multiple times that I wasn't yet a part of "Metro." See, the way I see it is thusly: I payed my dues to S2KI. I am a member of S2KI no matter which region of the world I visit. To be treated in any other manner is disrespectful and missing the point of having an international community.
I have no issues with paying "dues" to NES2KO if it is going to be used for insurance purposes for meets. I think that's incredibly intelligent. I also have no issues becoming a member of NES2KO if it sets itself up as it's OWN club, unassociated with S2KI (except as far as people are active in both clubs - much the same way as S2KCA works). However, I will not pay dues to a "club" that leeches off another club, and then informs the host that they are not a "real club."

Of course you are a member of S2ki all over the world. It is certainly a community and people are free to have meets using the site to organize them. The only question is what level of organization you want to have in your local community. You can just use the board to organize your meets, or you can get more formal and create an organization.
Please know the ownership of S2ki has encouraged local communities to organize their own clubs for meets and events. Glenn has discussed this directly with Eric Peterson, the site owner. This is not NES2KO vs S2ki. We are not stealing anything from S2ki, we are using the site as intended.
NES2KO has NEVER turned anyone away from a meet in my experience, including the many non-paying S2ki guests. those who pay their dues have always welcomed non paying members.
There was a time when S2ki had insurance. They do not have it now. We thought we were covered two years ago under S2ki coverage. After the fact, we learned we were not.
