just some thoughts.. about some stuff
ok - as most of you know there are two camps here -
s2ki new england where we all hang out and banter back and forth on the board and have fun and welcome everyone ( see triple H
) and use this medium to set up meets, drives, dinners etc etc etc
and there is nes2ko - which is a separate local car club that was started by G-s2k years ago when there was only a few s2000s in new england. we would get together to wrench, go on drives and have parties, help each other out with everything from installing stereo stuff to helping people move. Nes2ko would have annual dues / meetings of the direction of the club / create a Board of Directors / proposed to create bylaws, sell merchandise / and have sponsors and such. And back then I was the number #1 cheerleader of nes2ko
now some of you may not know the history and some may know it all too painfully well

I for one have never figured out what nes2ko is, I joined this board and this is where the forum is hosted. I did try to figure out the nes2ko thing but the forum linked to here so as far as my opinion for what its worth is this forum is the club.
What do I want from this forum. Comraderie would be #1 as you get older you lose touch with your chilhood and high school and college friends, you dont go out partying in bars all nite "well maybe sometimes" so long story short your circle of friends tends to shrink. This forum is a great place to make some friends and be able to help out each other when needed. We have seen a lot of help being passed around here and it makes me proud to be part of the group that can do that.
The other thing I want is for Steve to come to the Nor'easter you my friend are a much revered part of this forum and not having you there makes it kind of feel a little empty. Since were being honest in this thread Thats what i think.

yup this thread is an honest thread -
there will be no bashing or emotional outburts (by me anyway in this thread)
and I am sorry Dave.
i do know you (and others) wanted me to attend the NE but as i said - glenn went his way and i went mine.
The NE is Glenn's / Nes2ko event.

I regret that Steve feels so strongly about his rift with Glenn that he cannot bring himself to participate in the Nor'easter or other NES2KO activities. The door is always open. I think he knows that.
I, for one, have stayed away from promoting NES2KO becuase I did not want to cause any further rifts in the community. Maybe that is why people like Zzzippyy do not really know what it is. The club is an organization seperate from S2ki. It is our local owners' club. The idea is to have an organization that promotes the ownership and enjoyment of the car. Our biggest event every other year is the Nor'Easter. Next is the yearly Christmas party. As Steve mentions, the club did more in the past than it does now. Again, I think that is in part due to the desire not to cause a rift. If I announced that a meet would be sposored by NES2KO, there would be discussion about who is throwing the meet rather than the meet itself. That does us no good as a group. Still, many NES2KO BOD members have done a lot to help the club this year. Scott and I did the brake meet, Ellen has worked hard at tech issues and organizing meets, Lainey has worked hard at the Nor'ester and now here summer cook-out, Jim did the headlight meet and Georges Mohawk drive, Jeff (Cubby) is a great treasurer and Jeff (Rex) is a huge help in the Nor'easter and at other meets .... We have not gone away, we have just gone quiet. And I think we had a great year of activities, benefits for the members and increased participation.
Clearly, some who are not members have thrown meets and helped the community a lot. I'd be remiss if I did not acknowlege Steve for organizing meets and helping individual members, and Erick for his selfless sharing of the crack-house garage. We can certainly all play together, even if we are not all in the same club.
But now, I feel we are at a cross roads. The community has become much more active this year, with a wide variety of meets and activities. More mechanical meets, more drives, more car shows, and even more social meets. Many more people have become active in organizing meets, which is just great. Exactly what I hoped for at the start of my tenure as CO. But I just don't feel I can keep the activity seperate from the organization any longer. What do I mean by that? Well, NES2KO is now getting ready to buy liability insurance to protect participants, organizers and leaders from liability due to damage or injury to third parties. This insurance would protect all participants at designated meets. It is expensive, and the club will be paying out all of its reserve money, and taking a loan from many of the BOD people to pay the premium. To pay back the loans, we will use $ from the Hard Top Raffle. If that is not enough, some of us will consider the loan a gift. Others will get some repayment from club dues. But the premium is annual and if we want this protection, we have to pay the premium every year.
In addition, the club has always sponsored a Christmas party and other events during the year. We want to promote those events and build them up. But we can't do it without an active, dues-paying membership.
Perhaps most important of all, the club provides an opportunity to give leadership positions to other people. We need to appoint a new BOD, with a representative for each state of our region. I have seen some terriffic effort this year from people in Vermont, NH, Maine, CT and RI. I'd like to see those people recognized, and challenged to continue building on what we have started here. I think it is a lot easier to organize events when there is a leader in your area taking an active part.
I won't be here forever guys and gals. Jeff (Cubby) has had his hands full with Daddy 1.0. I know Steve is quick to question Glenn's participation, but I think he is prepared to get more involved again. Even if he is not, what difference does that make. Do we want to be part of a club? If so, we have one and we just need to participate.
To my firend Steve, I will simply say that the most difficult thing for me in my entire time on this board has been to see you disenfranchised from the club. I cannot undo the past. I can only try to build the future. There is a part that you can play and you are welcomed and encouraged to rejoin.
We are at a cross roads and it can be difficult to know which way to go. But we can all chose the same path and face the future together. To me, that is always better than going your own way, even if you are not sure everyone is headed in the right direction. I hope you will join us.
Soon, we will be starting a membership drive. The dues will be $35 for a year. Feel free to ask questions.
Those are my thoughts.

It's nice to see the other side even though we may not agree.
as for Glenn's participation, you are 100% correct. It

the more i think about it.. maybe mod / cos should have a time limit ie two years or so for s2ki - that way things could stay fresh?

Steve, you are someone I consider a "friend".
Personally, I do not throw that around lightly and most people I know online including this forum fit more into the category of what I term "friendly acquaintances". But, I call you a friend and I mean it.
That being said, I have to say that I do not really agree with some of your handling of the nes2ko issues.
I gave a lot of thought about why we would even need a "club" when we have s2ki. True, we BS here and the set up our meets through s2ki, but that is simply the medium for the "club" to plan and communicate.
As a group of folks interested in the S2000, we are a club. Clubs need to be organized to thrive. Things like insurance policies are a great idea and long over due IMO. Without a club, things like that are not possible.
I don't want to get into a big rant about why we need a club or any of that stuff. I really just wanted to say that I think we all understand that you have certain issues with Glenn and his lack of participation in recent years. It is time, IMO, to put that all behind you and get off the soap box. I think you truly want to see this group of guys and gals have a strong club and enjoy good meets and all the benefits of organized events. Please do not let your feelings toward Glenn and the fact that nes2ko was his brain child in the early days spoil it for people who don't know any better. There are many new comers like Dave for example who do not know Glenn and may now have a negative opinion of Glenn because they like you and respect what you say without having the benefit of knowing the whole story like some of the older members.
If you cannot find it yourself to get on board with the club for the big win, I would just hope that you can find it reasonable to stop making any posts that may prevent someone who doesn't know anything from forming their own opinion on nes2ko.
I hope this doesn't create any hard feelings from you toward me, Steve. I know that you and I have always been able to be honest with eachother and it has never effected our freindship. I hope this is no different.
That being said, I support nes2ko and what it has to offer this community. I will pay my dues.
