The octane would not cause the car to run like this, but water or other crap in the gas might have.

till all the regular is gone , tell him to drive it normal no heavy throttle movements and no Vtec ...... Or he will be visiting me
i thought i read somewhere if you gas up with 89 you do not want to engage into vtec
maybe he drove it hard?
so scott to clarify right now he should reset the ecu give it a little bit and try to run it if it runs than lay off keep the revs low till the fuel is gone and def get the cel code pulled correct?
never read that in the manual - i think it says you can run reg gas if need be
heck - i rented an s2000 years ago and i would bet dollars to dognuts that no one evgfer filled the thing with super
that being said - Scott knows more about this engine than everyone so i'd take his advise

i agree with mike - gas no matter what grade wont kill the car - it might make it ping a little but not ruin it
Without being there I cant say if he is severe or not , but with out the pros and cons being said he cant point the finger if there is a failure either
