I consider the high powered fat-ass sedans like the AMG 55, RS6 and XJR to be a tax on people with more money than intelligence.

What about the Infiniti M class or Mercedes C class? I love the new CLS
Yes. As you can see, the Lexus is shorter than the Jaguar. what is the overall length of the two?

Infiniti M looks like sh!t to me. I can't pick it out in a crowd of Toyotas, Hondas and Acuras. Just lok at the three car comparison in Road and Track. What the hell is the visial difference between an Acura RL and the Infiniti M?

I haven't looked at the CLS. Let me go check out their web site.

It's a tough call, Bill. Cosmetically, it doesn't have that love-at-first-sight charm that its predecessor had, but it does look pretty good in person. HP is certainly impressive and RWD is always nice. Its weight is approaching to that of the G35 so we'll have to see how it affects its handling. My feeling is that it won't be as good as the E90. Its lack of manual transmission is a sore spot as it was in the IS300. Lexus did release a manual transmission version a year or 2 after for the IS300; they might do the same w/ the IS350. Btw, the e-shift (what Lexus called its paddle shift at the time) in the IS300 was pretty lame.

I think the E90 is a more driver's car and that you would be happier in it.
^ I'm thinking you might be right Ben.

^ Well, commute in to Boston everyday for about 20 years and then tell me about it.

I too am more focused on a manual because most of the time I take the train now. I don't know about "most" paddle shift cars as I have not driven any. The reports in the auto mags say good things.
Well there are certainly times and places where an automatic would be preferable. I was just offering a response to your original question, which was simply, "What do you guys think?". Drive it and see how you like it. I personally didn't like the manu-matics I've driven. You never know, it might be perfect for you and your situation... or it might be worlds better than the Mazda and Acura ones I've tried. Only one way to know for sure I guess.

997 is gorgeous, but isnt Bill looking for a "sports sedan" ???

I dont know what i would buy if i was in the market for a luxury-sport sedan, However, i love that new Mercedes CLS Although its a big car,$70k is pretty steep. Imagine how much the AMG version will run!

No offense taken. This is part of the lively banter at NES2KO
