Long trip data
OK, I know I never make any NES2K events, but believe me, it's not by choice. Anyway, this weekend I took my first long road trip in the S. I drove up to Ithaca, NY to visit my kid at college.
Here's the data:
588.4 miles from 8:00AM Saturday until noon Sunday.
20.567 gallons of gas
28.6 mpg average.
One way trip was 281 miles in 4:02 (hours:min)
Average speed was 69.7 mph, not counting driving around locally in Ithaca.
I hesitated to take the S because I was worried about noise and ride on a long drive. In fact, I recommend it highly for trips of that length. It was very comforting to know I could go from cruising at 70 to passing at 95 almost as quickly as I could think about it. This is very helpful in avoiding clusters of erratic drivers and when passing trucks. Cruise control holds dead steady even on windy roads through the Adirondacks. No slowing down required on curves is a real plus. With the top up it's plenty quiet enough and quite comfortable on normal highways. Most of the drive time I was waffling between enjoying the ride in such a fine car and fear from crown vics with light racks. All in all, a very satisfying road trip.
I know this is all useless BS to most of you, but some other vintage types may be mildly interested.
PS: In Ithaca on Saturday afternoon I saw a spa yellow towing a set of race tires.

Not bad at all, and I usually have problems in that area. That was one of the reasons I almost didn't take the S. While on cruise control I could pull in my legs and stretch my back occasionally. That was enough. I think I could have gone another couple of hours if I had to.
Glad you enjoyed your trip.
We've done several long hauls in the "S". WV this past spring, VT a couple of times and recently Lake Placid. Our gas mileage was about the same as yours.
For the most part, we're both fairly comfortable on the long hauls. We stop fairly often.
Sometimes my back does get stiff and recently I've noticed some aches in the legs too. I thought that was related to the birthday I just had.
Maybe I need to try the small towel/pillow thing when we head to Lake George in the "S" next month.
