Default MA plates

hi my fellow NE members,
i was just wondering if anyone knows if MA requires a front plate..
i see the cars around here with them all the time, but i also see quite a few without front plates... so i was just wondering if not having a front plate is legal..
thanks,

Hiya!

From what I've heard, if you have the old green and white style plate, you don't need a front tag.

If you have the new style plates, the front needs to be added.

That being said....

Well you see there are ways around not having a front plate

Yes your suppose to have one, however.... for the longest time in Ma you only needed a rear plate until about 1995 or 96. So if you notice a car with a green plate on the rear and none in the front, that's because having the green older plates does not require you to have a front plate. Now with the red plates you're suppose to have the front one on, but... the loop hole is that until they make everyone have a front and rear plate even if you get a ticket for it you can go to court and have it dismissed. I only run my front plate on the beater car. I actually shaved the front plate holes off the S. Also you can take the front plate bolt it to the factory plate bracket and then place it on the ground and jump on it, then stick it under the seat. That way even if they try to cite you for it you have a broken bracket and you tell the cop that it broke and you have to get it replaced but you didn't want ot leave it on the car and have it fall off on the highway and cause and accident, you where just trying to be proactive (cops like that) (and BTW a cop told me that) I've had the car of 3 years and I've never had the plate on, except to get a new inspection sticker then I just zip tie it to the grille for 5 minutes, once they are done I pull it right back off.

I've never had an issue without having a front plate. The S2000 looks like crap with it in the front. My excuse is that "I just detailed the car and was missing a bolt..." and I keep the bracket and license plate in the trunk.

Everytime I get pulled over I pull the plate out from underneath the passanger seat and say " I lost a bolt and haven't had it replaced yet, ill put it in my window for now"

been yanked twice in worcester and worked both times.
Too bad most everyones green plates look like kaka from age.

I live in Massachusetts, so i have to have front and back license plates becuase my plates have red numbers. I was going to put older plates (with green numbers) so i could take off the front plate. When i took off the front license plate and the housing i noticed a large problem. (This is a consern of the honda sales man more than the car it self). Anyway, i removed the housing to see that the license plate was drilled in about half an inch out of place! the sales man drilled the license plate into the BODY All he had to do was line it up right and get the screw in there holes but he had to miss them. Now i had to put the license plate and the housing back on because the two holes in the body where VERY noticable. what an A$$. I put the plate on so it isnt noticable anymore but thats not the point. I am upset with the sales man for making this extremely poor and stupid mistake. Please give me your input on this. I dont see any solution (besides getting the front part of the bumper redone=money i dont want to spend) so i just left the plate on. oh well i he wasnt in such a rush to get us the car he might have not made the mistake.

Also, this is off topic but when i bought my S2k, they had one in Western mass which was the color i wanted so they said they could have it in 4 days. So i say ok. Then a week and a half later with NO phone calls, i go to the dealership to cancel my order. and they were just driving it down. Hmmm, if i said that i was just checking on it he probably wouldve delayed it more, but since i said i didnt want it anymore he magically said it was on the way a week and a half late.

This is the Honda Dealership In Hyannis MA, which i had a few difficulties with. anyway give me ur imput on these situations.
