It is recommended not to change out the factory oil till 7500 miles as there is a break-in additive in it , just keep toping it off with good old dino oil. And Steve is right no synthetics till 10000 miles. This is how I broke mine in and I have one of the highest stock dynoing # in the group (201whp Stock)

so you're saying not to change the oil till 7500 miles? Dealership said to change it after 3750 miles. Now I'm just confused.

have a look at your owner's manual

3750 is for severe driving also

Bass and Twiztid are correct.

All of there info above is what should be done for low milage S2k engines.

Switching to synthetic at 10K or 11k is also a good baseline

Switching any sooner is not what I have ever recommended.

In a nutshell of what has been said above... stay with Dino Oil until around 10K or 11K... then switch to synthetic. Mobil 1 has always been a favorite of mine.

JS,

Honda recommends waiting until after about 7500-10000 miles before switching to synthetic. I, for one, would stick with Honda recommendation if for no other reason than warrantee compliance.

That said, it's doubtful you'll have any trouble.

Leave the factory fill in until it really looks dark (also my advice)... I did my first oil change (to dino oil) at about 3500 mi.

I changed my factory fill at 4000 with a high molybdenum dino oil, Castrol GTX. I just couldn't stand how dark the oil looked and I could not find "Magic Honda break-in oil" at the dealership. Anyway, my car broke in fine.

thanks for all the info. I think I'll just top off with something like Penzoil 10w-30 till my first oil change somewhere from 5-7.5k miles.

^ Yeah, I was uncomfortable waiting that long. The factory fill was looking like Guinness by 3K miles. If you decide to drain, I believe (not sure) that you can get Molybdenum additive to mix in with the oil. I think at least one guy on the board has done that (probably unnecessary).

G'luck!

added a half quart today at 3250 miles. Should be good for the time being.
