Default A Question about installing springs

Folks, I recently bought a set of Eibach Pros to put on my 2003 S. Actually, they were nearly free because I had a $250 gift certificate toward the purchase.
I have read all the DIY threads and am considering doing it myself. I am a novice mechanic and am worried that something will go wrong and the car will be stuck up on the jackstands.

On the other hand, I have called 2 places in the central Conn area to have them installed, and they both quoted me 4 hours labor plus alignment--over $400 for everything.

Is there any installation advice you might have or know if 4 hours of labor is the customary charge?
Thanks in advance. Walter

The book time for that job is 3.7 hours (1.8 for the fronts and 1.9 for the rears), so it looks like they're billing you fairly. That said... the job can be done much quicker. We installed Mark's springs in under 2 hours with a bunch of extra sets of hands around. It really doesn't matter if the shop can do it in two hours though, they'll always charge you the book time.

Don't think I haven't thought of that too.

Only tip i got for you is DON'T unbolt or move the gas line, it is completely unneccesary
and I have no idea why I always read of people doing it. All you need is a couple extensions and you can remove the bolts on the drivers side rear strut no problem. Took me under 2 hours start to finish to do mine.

Yes, reading the DIY's, it seems most people avoided doing anything with the gas lines. Thanks for the tip.

It took like 4 of us 2 hours. One could still do it in less than 4 easily; we were held up by having one impact wrench and one set of spring compressors. I was just trying to say that it doesn't matter how fast a tech does it, they aren't going to give you a big discount if they bang a job out quickly.
