I don't like carrying the thing I have, for all I know it's pumping bad stuff
into my leg and in 20 years my thigh is going to dissolve, I can only imagine
what those newfangled things are radiating.

Jeff, watch the fine print with your future Iphone purchase. They requie that you have the data plan to get the phone. Than they monitor your network usage if you are found to be using data or found to not have a data plan they charge you for it. Im not sure what the jailbreak would accomplish.

Although I do know you can go to another carrier with a jailbroken phone. Also this is not well know but after 12 months of ownership of an Iphone you dont even have to jailbreak it all you have to do is take it into a store and tell them you want them to unlock it they have to unlock it for you.

Does any of this answer your question, I dunno.

BTW your hooked on that itouch now eh, told ya so 6 months ago Now Bass needs to see the light.

I think you have jail breaking confused with unlocking.

Unlocking allows you to use another cell carrier as a provider. Jailbreaking simply allows you to use apps that arent apple approved and sold in the iTunes store. There are apps that allow you to tether your iPhone to a PC as a modem and use the iPhone data plan to surf on the PC. to do this, I think all I would need is the jailbreaking. I would be leaving the phone on ATT so no need to unlock.

I just wish you could get a iphone with no voice plan, but sadly that isn't the case. I would probably port my cell number to the iPhone and use it for voice and data. Then I would carry the nextel just for direct connect. WTF, I am only paying $30/mo for it now anyway.

Bah, you are getting to old. You used to be a gadget guy like me.

Besides, I am going to call XM this week, if what you say is true about them not offering a low price anymore, I am going to can them and just go with MP3 for now on.

Ah thats it, well you cn always go to the lowest voice plan its 550 mins, also if you have an online acct and change it there from a higher plan you will get a discount by using the online acct.

I will look into the app for tethering and see what I can come up with.

I know all about the tethering app, a guy at work showed me how it works on his phone the other day. He even offered to jailbreak it for me

I am just wondering if anyone knows of any limits on bandwidth or anything that I might run into by using it as a modem on my laptop or if someone knows something I don't about why my cunning plan will fail

^ I was going to look into a non-jailbroken tethering app. there has to be one out there, also beware of the so called "unlimited" data plan they cut you off after a certain threshold correct?
