Because it was dark and hard to read the directions while driving!

Might want to consider stoping, reading instruction, then driving again. Sounds like reading and driving at the same time is too much of a burden.

I DO know how to get to Watkins Glen and WGI (w/o a map) which I consider the most important place in your state

I can't tell you how many times I packed a map on the Nighthawk and went out for a ride, only to pull over on the side of the road after hours of riding knowing I was completly lost, but that was the fun. I would ride for hours just going heare and then there, picking that road over the other one, not having any care in the world as to where I was going, as loing as the road I was on was the best one I could find.
For me a big part of the fun was getting lost, figuring out where I was with the help of a good map, plotting out a route home, and then getting back into the saddle.
^ To me a big part of the joy I have with the S is living the lesson learned from this book.

An awesome book, a great read, and the lesson is - it's not the destination that matters, it is all about the journey.
