Recommendations for weekend getaways?
Hi everyone, Kimmie and I are completely worn out and tired from work and life in general and want to get away for a weekend in May sometime. Preferably, a Friday to Sunday/Monday. Anyways, for the past couple of years we've gone to Chicago which we absolutely love and would definitly go back to, but this year we'd like to try someplace different.
Any suggestions?
We have no kids, and would like to go someplace with a combination of sights to see and places to rip it up at. We don't want to go someplace where we spend the whole time at the bars, we'd like to be able to walk to places, enjoy the sights, meet people, etc... Obviously, if the place has a great nightlife, it would certainly be a big plus. Also, being it is just a long weekend, it would be nice if it wasn't a 7 hour flight just to get there.
So far my choices have been Charleston, SC and Savannah, GA.
Edit: We'd also like to do our part to support the economy
, so we are looking at places in the states.
Thanks!

I was going to recommend SC. Myrtle Beach area too......there are shows, and this place is supposed to be quite lovely Brookgreen if you are into that sort of thing.
Walk on the beach, shops, etc.???
I've not been there, but my sister recently moved to that area and another sister heads that way at least once a year.
Just make sure it's not bike week!

Well, until I saw that last line, I was going to say Bermuda. Their dollar is pegged to the US dollar $1 to $1, so they are hurting in the recession as well. But it is a different country. But it is only about a 2 hr flight from NY or Boston. If I wasn't trying to buy a house, I'd take long weekends there.
So I said it anyways. Not that it's particularly inspired, but for domestic venues, NYC is always a good time. I grew up 45 minutes outside the city, but I still enjoy and find new places every time I go.

I was going to Bermuda as well.in an indirect way you may be helping the American economy since a lot of the hedge funds are there now.
So in May, I might suggest Santa Fe. It's just before tourist season gets silly.
Fly into Albuquerque and drive about a hour north. It's kind of on the edge for a long weekend but wicked cool place.
The old downtown area has tons of art galleries and restaurants.
Beautiful area.
I've heard Indianapolis has some big social event in the end of May too

Might make for an interesting weekend.
On the Vegas wagon here......and it is super cheeeeeep to go these days. There are plenty of things to see and do....and if you have not been there, it is other worldly....
I was in Savannah last year....very nice for a weekend trip. The obvious draw are the 36 Historic squares, but there is a decent art museum, tons of historical stuff and a place called Wet Willys...google it. Essentially a bar that sells extememly strong slushies. If you go I can reccomend a few places to eat, drink etc...Savannah is like Key West in that you can walk around with an open container.

Vegas is VERY
We've been twice. BUT it's a long haul for a four day weekend, if you take the red-eye, you'll save time, but you may be tired. You'd spend a lot of the weekend traveling. AND they jack up the hotel prices on weekends. It still might be cheaper than before, but the best buys in Vegas are Sunday-Thursday.
