Scott,
For short trips, DC is a great weekend get a way. I consider DC to be disney world for adults. May is the perfect month for DC. The Museums and memorials are incredible and there is plenty of night life. Why not visit the place where all your money is being spent?
San Francisco is a must see city. I could easily live in San Francisco. The flight is not much longer than the flight to Vegas.

DC. So much to see and you've already paid for it.

As far as San Fran, I love it as well, been there twice including a trip last August. I could def. live out there if I could find work and afford the housing. For a weekend though, the flight is just too long. I would just get adjusted to the timezones and I'd be back on a plane. Def. needs to be a week or more out there.
Thanks for the suggestion!

Just don't try and drive around at all...my experiences just trying to
drive THROUGH the area to get further south at all different times of
the day and week, it is a NIGHTMARE.

Been there, done that... twice. Miserable.

Ya know, DC is a great idea, I hadn't thought of that yet.
If you do end up going, don't forget the Udvar-Hazy Center, which is the other half of the Air and Space museum. It's in a totally different area, near Dulles airport, so people forget about it.

It's got the Space Shuttle Enterprise, an SR-71, a Concorde, and the Enola Gay among a bunch of other cool stuff.
The monuments are pretty sweet, too. If they're busy, I recommend going late at night. Like, after the bars close if you can stay out that late. There's something really neat about standing at the Lincoln Memorial or the Jefferson Memorial on a calm, cool evening with nobody else around.
