Default S2000s rust!

Yesterday I met a nice guy who just bought a model year 2000 S. I told him about the site and took a look at his car. It needed some work, but he got it for a low price. The thing that suprised me was the rust. There was rust right around the rear fender arches, on the inside fender lip, and also on the panel itself just above the lip. It looked just like the rust you see on older Civics. This was on both fenders. The car had 69K on it. Really sad to see this sort of deterioration on a MY 2000 car.

Must have been driven year round, I wonder how often the previous owner washed the salt off it, if ever.

I think the rubber trim on the edge of the rear fender arch traps salt/moisture.

In fact....I think i Read that on S2ki somewhere.

i looked at an 02 GPW at a car lot in boston, and it had surprising surface rust along the crease that is below the door. Thing did look poorly maintained.

Well, it sure made me rethink my was and wax schedule. Most modern cars have bodies that hold up well for 7-8 years. I guess Honda hasn't discovered galvanized body panels yet.
