Saturn Sky
Yes, you are right. I think it was based on the Lotus chassis (the older Speedster which Steve posted a pic above) But the new Speedster looks just like the Sky and it is now a convertible instead of a targa top car. I remember seeing pic of it in C&D awhile back. So what i saw a few years ago was the targa car that was based on the Lotus i guess.
I agree i like the Sky's looks but i wouldnt go as far as buying one. Its a GM so who knows what the reliability will be like, especially the first year of production! Its actually one of the very few american cars i actually like to give more than a second glance
And about the sky/solstice guys talking crap, well i guess they are in for a rude awakening on the road!
Boxster is a huge step or 2 or 3 upward and shouldnt be compared to that ugly thing
Sorry but to me the Solstice is like a budget Miata. Actually id rather have the new MX5 and to me that is a huge step up from the bottom of the barrel Solstice.

Although if you read some of the Solstice/Sky forums, these gys think the Solstice is on the same level as a Boxster and the trash talking about the S2000...
Sometimes the fanatisism gets to be ridiculous...

I'm just curious
I've been reading this forum since the Solstice concept debuted so i can't trace exactly the forums mentioned but here is a quick link

I just basically did a search for "S2000" for the whole community and came up with these results. Other forums I have read have been on Edmunds and the Caranddriver.com sites.

Saving this for "entertaining reading" when I get a free chance
^ Oh, its definitely entertaining! In a "take it with a grain of salt" frame of mind
. I don't think the comments I read are from an objective POV that's for sure...
More like "Hondas suck, GM's rule" kind of mentallity... Ugh.

Interesing read. When I first read this, I thought the guy was nuts:
Then it was backed up by a different poster:
Interesting...
Let me just say first off - I'm sorry to hear about the damage to your car but I'm glad that you're okay!
Secondly - from experience the first thing you want to do is get off the gas, don't oversteer the car - it will come back mostly on its own, apply the brakes, and steer out of the skid! Remember - this is a REAR WHEEL drive so it will act differently than the front wheel drives that most of us have been driving for the last 15-20 years.
Once those rear tires lose the grip and you oversteer to compensate, you have in essence "whipped" them around and not allowed them to re-grip the pavement

This car doesn't seem to respond like the rear wheel drives we are or are not used too.
Most rear wheel drives the respose to a slide is to accelerate slightly and steer into the skid. Of all the skid corrections I have read about here it seems to be that you let off the gas and do nothing else the car self corrects.

Sounds like these cars can get twitchy quickly. I don't think the steering is speed sensitive like the S. I would think that with the mammoth rubber on those things that they would stay planted.
These cars were built on a budget. I don't think there was 100% effort in development, I think the body shape was more the motivation.
Could this be a modern day Fiero?

Oh, regardless of the looks of the sky and solstice, they are just 2 more cars for us to whoop on.
