Default so its been...

its been almost 5 months since I officially quit smoking. It is the hardest thing I had to do, it really takes a lot of commitment to do this. Hats off to anyone who has accomplished quiting this habbit.
Since then I have gained about 25 lbs and as a sugesstion my wife bought me a membership or (renewed membership) to a local gym. I have been going religiously for a month now, every other day and working out for 1,5 hrs each time I'm there. Needless to say, so far I didn't loose any weight. Here's what I do.

1. Run like I stole somthin for 2 miles on tredmill...
2. depending on the day, either it will be chest and back - bicept and tricpet - forearms and abs.
3. each day I do 120 crunches
4. finish the day with another 2 miles on tredmill.

I realize that I have been building muscle, but I'd think I would loose some weight.???? Am I missing something???

Other than what the scale reads, how do you feel and think you look physically? If both are better then I woundt worry too much about it.

I havent had a smoke in almost a year. I gained over 25 lbs before my surgery and have dropped 10 since. Its mostly due to my diet and not my activity level.

Congrats on not smoking. It isnt easy. God knows Ive wanted a smoke this week pretty baddly. I think the cost per pack is saving me from going back. I simply cant afford to smoke!

I quit smoking in 1989 - it was definitely the hardest thing I have ever done! Great job on the 5 months! That is still the healthiest thing you could have done, even putting on a little extra weight.

To lose weight you MUST reduce and/or burn calories... one pound requires a 3500 calorie reduction in a week. You'll need to shoot for 1500-2000 calories per day - life can be very not fun like that

I've been doing it since Oct... have lost 25 lbs so far between less calories and more exercise.

Good for you shug! This will kill you guys who quit recently... back when I quit you could get a carton of smokes for about $11

I see prices of cigarettes now and almost keel over

I could not afford to smoke anymore... it would be almost as much as my grocery bill is now.

Mucsle is heavier than fat. It's a bit late but see if you can get one of hte trainers or other pros at the gym to test your body fat percentage. Then test it again in a couple months. You should see an apprecaible difference.
Good luck on the workout regimen and congrats on quitting.
